By now, you've seen the results of yesterdays primary. Obama scored a resounding win in NC, and it was essentially a tie in IN. Obama is now within 200 delegates of securing the nomination. Based on the math, even if Clinton somehow manages to pull in her votes from FL and MI (without Obama getting any of the "undecideds"), she still cannot surpass his lead. He can now be declared the "presumptive nominee".

It seems even the candidates knew it last night. Obama's speech had the tinge of an acceptance speech and any comments about "his opponent" were directed at McCain. Clinton's speech was a bit schyzophrenic, with "we're going all the way" comments framing a center core that seemed to be a "thanks for all the hard work" good-bye speech. Edwards' last speeches and comments were laden with "we're going all the way" comments too, right up until he dropped out.

It didn't have to end up like this. It could have been Clinton. It could have gone all the way to the convention.

A funny thing happened on the way to the polling place, however. The voters decided they'd had enough of smear politics. They wanted respect.

Has it already started??? AT&T Blocking e-mails?
Author: right wing hater    Date: 05/05/2008 20:17:16

Hey Everyone...this is really unnerving (to say the least)

I post the Daily Reading every morning to the Forum on this site (and I always send it to my bellsouth account (the 'new AT&T' - ie unstoppable monopolistic juggernaut) as well as to a small mailing list (7 addresses - including Raine's yay!)...

Well, I thought something was up this morning, when I didn't see that it went through (from bellsouth to bellsouth) so I sent it to my AOL account from bellsouth and vice versa...to see if it will send it....Nada. Corrupt text/code...nope created brand new e-mails...same thing 3x.

I remember reading a couple of months back that AT&T would become a 'filter police' filtering/monitoring packets etc...under the cloak of 'piracy prevention'. Now for those of you who get into torrents, etc....you know that means you.

We already knew these (insert words here) were illegally accumulating data for the Bush crime family (ala San Francisco whistleblower who has made the rounds)...

Well...I look at their 'new guidelines' and apparently they are content filtering now....

Now...if an e-mail advocates for an illegal action, ok I'll bite...but the thought police enter into the equation here, which I am 100% against.
I can understand them filtering for 'profanity', 'inappropriate content' yada yada yada...but this seriously infringes upon freedom of speech. Once again, I'm an adult (at least in age, maybe not in practice 24-7, 365...) and there was none of the above, in fact you can go to the Forum and see exactly what I cut & paste everday....tell me if that violates any 'terms of use' you've ever seen....

Now...how many of those of you remember "NET NEUTRALITY" and the amazing grass roots stir & headlines it garnered during the run up to the 2006 election, it became a hot button issue and for all intensive purposes we 'won' and it became taken for granted. So when you see those petitions...please take those 10 seconds to do them.

I just got off the phone with them (supervisor) who wanted me to forward the message to their server team, ok, I'll play ball for now...but if by the end of this week this isn't resolved (he stated 48 hours - and yes he asked for a summary of the 'content'), then AT&T can kiss this customer good bye.

And HughesNet (satellite DSL) will have a new customer...

Talk about a Police State, hopefully this is an isolated incident, if not....I may take this and run a campaign against them...

Feel free to offer any suggestions or add anything

BTW: Raine...did you receive my daily in your comcast inbox today?

About that bar..........
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 05/04/2008 12:45:01

Reporting from NC: Where Velveeta went to hear our next first lady, Ms Michelle Obama, speak at a rally on Friday evening.

Coincidentally, Hillary Clinton spoke just hours earlier and a few miles down the road. Had I wanted to, I could easily fit both into my day - I chose to see "Iron Man" instead. I point this out as somewhat of a "nudge-nudge" poke. On Friday our local TV "News at Noon" broadcast live at the Hillary event and proudly speculated a crowd of 2000! Not bad for a small town. This was later downplayed on the Saturday morning local newscast, as they were forced to report a crowd of around 3500 at the Michelle Obama rally. Instead, our local news turned Ms Clinton's rally into "thousands showed up...." (Reminder: Ms Obama is not running for any office, Ms Clinton is).

Now, in defense of Ms Clinton, her rally was at Noon on a workday, while Ms Obama's was around dinner time. But still. Mark my words: I will call in sick to work on the day our next President, Barack Obama, comes to town (rumored that he is). Gosh I hope no one at work is reading this.

The rally was held outside on a beautiful, clear, crisp day. A day that started out painfully hot, in the 70’s, the wind was blowing nicely and the temperature was dropping to a much more pleasant low 60’s as the sun slowly set. Perfect for Rallies, Bluegrass music or Baseball!

Duty to Others
Author: TriSec    Date: 05/03/2008 10:50:28

Good Day.

Well, by now most of you know that I had an opportunity to relocate to Maine. You also probably know it didn't work out. It wasn't work; it was the home front. Without baring my soul too much....Mrs. TriSec and I faced a true marital crisis over this one. We've been through many things together, but for the first time, the thought of leaving did cross my mind.

We're over the hump now, after a few tumultuous weeks...and there's a reason I was able to pull myself back together. In times of need, we all go back to that rock, that one thing we've always turned to in a time of need.

You probably know that I've been a Scout and Scouter since I was 8 years old. 2008, in fact, is my 20th year as a registered adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

Disparate things? Maybe. Or Maybe not.

One Nation, Under the Thumb
Author: BobR    Date: 05/02/2008 12:27:52

It was hard to miss the news item yesterday, despite the 5 minutes it garnered before slipping away again. The DC Madam "committed suicide" in a shed behind her mother's house. This is the same DC madam that had names and dirt on a lot of powerful DC insiders according to news reports:
The so-called "D.C. Madam" vowed she would never go to federal prison for running a high-end Washington prostitution ring. Not even for a day.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey made good on that promise Thursday when she went to a shed outside her mother's mobile home and hanged herself from a rafter with nylon rope.

The 52-year-old Palfrey was convicted two weeks ago of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican. She was free while she awaited sentencing on July 24.

Her 76-year-old mother, Blanche Palfrey, found the body in the tiny shed outside the pink and white mobile home in the community of mostly retirees in this Gulf Coast town 20 miles northwest of Tampa

The news spin on this is that she said "she'd never go to jail". What they're failing to report is that she also said she'd never commit suicide, and if it appeared she did, it wouldn't be true:

We paid a price...
Author: Raine    Date: 05/01/2008 12:14:47

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of "Mission Accomplished". On this day, pResident *ush announced, "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended," Bush said at the time. "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed." [source]

As you know, every Tuesday we have a blog here called Ask a Vet, and the numbers tell us what a lie this was. Yesterday, the White house said they paid a price for that fateful day. 'What?' you say? They admitted a mistake? Why YES!
They Paid the Price...
After shifting explanations, the White House eventually said the "Mission Accomplished" phrase referred to the carrier's crew completing its 10-month mission, not the military completing its mission in Iraq. Bush, in October 2003, disavowed any connection with the "Mission Accomplished" message. He said the White House had nothing to do with the banner; a spokesman later said the ship's crew asked for the sign and the White House staff had it made by a private vendor.

"President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished' for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission," White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. "And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year."

She said what is important now is "how the president would describe the fight today. It's been a very tough month in Iraq, but we are taking the fight to the enemy."

At least 49 U.S. troops died in Iraq in April, making it the deadliest month since September when 65 U.S. troops died.

The Martyr
Author: BobR    Date: 04/30/2008 12:52:32

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life... (John 3:17)

According to Websters, a martyr is "a person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause". About 2000 years ago, Jesus allowed himself to be martyred for the sins of mankind (if you believe the Christian Bible). There are two types of martyrs: Those that allow themselves to be nailed to the cross for the greater good, and those that nail themselves to the cross so they can feel noble and important. There are too many of the latter, and not enough of the former in this world.
