Libertarian Saturday
Author: TriSec    Date: 12/29/2007 11:24:04

Good Morning!

Well, if it's a Saturday blog before 8:30, you know where I'm off to this morning. It's my last platelet donation of the year. Remember folks...if you already donate blood, it's the next logical step. I find it to be more valuable and a much more meaningful donation than time or money...it's literally my own flesh and blood.

So....on to some news and tibdits from around some of my favorite Libertarian websites. Sort of a 'cleaning out the drawer of the political mind' (with apologies to Bob Ryan).

No More Sympathy for the Devil
Author: BobR    Date: 12/28/2007 13:09:50

I stuck around at St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a-time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain

I shouted out,
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name

Throughout history we've seen how the course of human events can take an abrupt turn with the death of just one person. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand set into motion WWI. There were numerous alliances and tenuous relationships at the time that had created a house of cards which fell because of that one murder.

After the assassination of JFK, we became embroiled in war in VietNam. The assassinations of RFK and MLK destroyed the hope of the nation that peace, love, and equality was on the way. But no - instead, the answer to hope for the future by those in alliance with true evil is the forced death of those that would lead us towards enlightenment.

And so - it seems - once again.

Back to work...
Author: BobR    Date: 12/26/2007 13:20:14

Considering I'm still trying to readjust to Real Life after the last few days of Christmas, I thought perhaps I should ease the blog back in with a post-Christmas wrap up...

First: Some good news... Bethlehem hosts cheerful Christmas:
BETHLEHEM, West Bank - Gloom was banished from Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem for the first time in years on Monday as Christian pilgrims from all over the world flocked here to celebrate Jesus' birth in an atmosphere of renewed tranquility.

After Israeli-Palestinian fighting erupted in 2000, nearly all of the people milling around Manger Square in the center of this biblical town on Christmas had been local Palestinians. But this year, city hotels were packed with tourists.

Tiago Martins, 28, from Curitiba, Brazil, said he was visiting Jesus' traditional birthplace for the first time after new peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians reassured him he'd be safe.

So, This Christmas?
Author: Mondobubba    Date: 12/25/2007 15:02:46

I've been thinking about what Christmas means the past few hours. Brother Mondo has become so stressed about the whole unpleasantness that brought him to my house that he was having chest pain last Friday. He's okay, but he has been in the hospital under observation and having tests run. We were planning a gift exchange etc this morning, but alas that is not meant to be. So, you are wondering what my musings and ruminations on Christmas are? Simple answer, Christmas is not about the gifts, it is about the relationships with others we have. Those bonds of family & friendship, of love and kindness. Will I have a good Christmas? Not in the traditional sense no. I've gotten a great gift this year. I've gotten to know my brother as a fully formed adult. This has been one of the best gifts I've gotten in long, long time. So instead of material things I will visit with Brother Mondo for a bit, go to my gym, return to the house and fix my dinner. All the while I will be thinking of this great gift I've been given, about all my friends here and in the analog world. I will be thinking about how much love I've got for Brother Mondo and all of my other dear wonderful friends.

Merry Christmas everybody!

Something spiritual for our souls:

And a song based on the Christmas Truce of 1914

Well my friends, we are here at the doorway of another year. I wish us all a moment of peace and love, and a letter from a soldier:

Civil Liberties for Christmas
Author: TriSec    Date: 12/22/2007 12:16:34

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the nation
Friends of Freedom knew it was a special occasion.
Lady Liberty stood taller just off the shore
Her torch shining brighter than a few weeks before

But it wasn't the flame turning her cheeks all rosy
It was thoughts of Snowe, Feingold and Nancy Pelosi
And leaders from every side of the aisle
Who would soon bring the Bill of Rights back into style.

The Amendments had all hurried out of their beds -
Which was no easy task, they were nearly in shreds -
And they rushed to the window on papery feet
As a jolly old man flew right over their street.

"Could it be!?" they inquired as the roof shook and trembled
And they crept toward the mantle, peaceably assembled,
Just as someone emerged from the chimney with flair
In a shiny red suit, with a shock of white hair

And a top hat, and pants all in red, white and blue -
"Wait a minute," the Amendments exclaimed, "Who are you?"
"Don't be frightened my children," he said, "it's no scam.
"You can't have forgotten your old Uncle Sam!"

"Holy crap!" said Free Speech. "Stop right there!" yelled Bear Arms
And Privacy cried "Who shut off the alarms?!"
The Fifth remained silent, but Uncle Sam said
"We've been having some trouble, but Freedom's not dead."

FOUR FREEDOMS ENDORSES JOHN EDWARDS
Author: TriSec    Date: 12/21/2007 17:09:39

For Immediate Release

FOUR FREEDOMS ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENT OF JOHN EDWARDS

WALTHAM, MA - December 20, 2007 - The influential non-partisan discussion board and blog ‘Four Freedoms’ (www.fourfreedomsblog.com) announces its endorsement of John Edwards in the Democratic Primary.

Senator Edwards has been a longtime supporter of the downtrodden, from his early days as a litigator to his Senate track record. John Edwards dwells not on the past, but on the hope for the future, and is the only candidate that truly understands what is important to average Americans.

Senator Edwards will work hard to end the war in Iraq and bring our troops home without any further bloodshed and has the intelligence and the temperment to work with both our allies and our enemies to repair our damaged international reputation and find common ground to move forward.

Senator Edwards has a comprehensive plan to help average Americans by reigning in the runaway spending of the current administration, and restore our lost civil rights and get government out of places where it has no business intruding.

Four Freedoms Co-founder Robert Rouse states, “He's honest about his positions and understands where personal beliefs end and government begins. Senator Edwards has said that although he doesn't agree with gay marriage, he won't try to legislate against it. He also seems to really understand the plight of the poor and middle class, and cares enough to want to do something about it.”

The founders of Four Freedoms urge all true Americans and Patriots to vote for Senator Edwards, and calls upon citizens to cross party lines if necessary in order to advance Senator Edward’s campaign and restore hope, decency, and civility to the American Political Process, something that has been lacking for quite some time. Senator Edwards may not have all the answers, but he is our best hope for true change and progress towards what all Americas believe in…that is, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
