Deja Vu and Nixon too
Author: BobR    Date: 11/30/2007 13:27:41

Everything old is new again. Clothing styles, hair styles, car styles... Apparently a drop in housing prices too. From this article:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The biggest plunge in new home prices in 37 years was not enough to revive October sales, according to the government's latest reading on the battered housing and home building markets.

The sales pace for October was well short of economists' forecasts. The Census Bureau's latest report also sharply cut back on its earlier estimates for sales in August and September, when a meltdown in mortgage markets kept many potential buyers from getting the financing they needed.

Also depressing sales and prices was a record 191,000 completed new homes on the market that have not yet been sold.

Like that same time period in the 70's we also have an economy heading toward inflation and recession, both of which will likely be blamed on the president's successor. This got me thinking about Bush and Nixon. What other similarities do we have?

What would Jesus Do
Author: Raine    Date: 11/29/2007 13:23:13

I watched the debate last night, Wine and Nyquil and homeade chocolate chunk cookies make it all do able. I think Jesus would have had some wine and cookies with me.

I woke up this morning with a fresher set of eyes about what happened and what was said, and you know what? Nothing was said! Instead of addressing the serious questions, they all tried to out do each other, almost as if this race was between themselves, and not for the most important position a person can hold. It was mean, contentiuos and lacking substance.

There were some great questions. One of my faves was in regards to the Death penalty, and whether Jesus would have supported it. Huckabee, after not answering the question was cornered by Anderon Cooper about that finally said: Jesus was too smart to run for office".

CNN/YouTube(tm) Republican Debate
Author: Raine    Date: 11/29/2007 00:22:35

Tonite we blog as we watch. The drinking game is as follows:

1 shot for everytime a candidate mentions RayGun;
1 Shot for each time War on Terror™ is mentioned;
Double Shots for any mention of 911™ in conjuntion with the war on terror ar anything associated thereof;
Double shot for a Clinton reference;

If any of the following occur:

- Rudy's wife will call in the middle of the debate and tell him she is leaving him for a woman;

- Mitt will use a new hair gel and the heat from the TV studio lights will ignite his quaff mid-way through a question;

- Fred will fall asleep, literally, and begin snoring;

- Mike will talk way too much about Keith Richards, leaving many to question what he's really concerned about;

- Ron Paul will accidentally utters and inappopriate slur;
The entire bottle must be killed.

All credit must be given to Ms. Velveeta Jones for the Kill Bottle list... :clap:

See you inside! and :heart:

The Shame of the Nation
Author: BobR    Date: 11/28/2007 13:40:27

For years now, George Bush has embarrassed this nation. From his ignominious start with the Supreme Court appointment to his antics before and after "Mission Accomplished", along with all of his mispronunciations, he has looked and acted the buffoon.

Who can forget his schoolboy-forgot-to-study explanation of sovereignty? He repeated the word as part of the definition, stabbing out the syllables in his patented way as if that was all the explanation needed. Hell - who can forget ANY of his mangled syntax?

Who can forget his attempt at a "back rub" on German Chancellor Angela Merkel?... or proclaiming certain nations to be members of an "axis of evil"?

Oy.

But he's definitely outdone himself this time. Here he is mangling the names of the participants at the peace conference he put together:

Mint Julep Anyone?
Author: Raine    Date: 11/26/2007 13:30:04

Trent is leaving...
NBC News has learned that Trent Lott's in the midst of informing close allies that he plans to resign his senate seat before the end of the year. It's possible a formal announcement of his plans could take place as early as today.
"Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house - he's lost his entire house - there's going to be a fantastic house, and I'm looking forward to sitting on the porch."

Libertarian Saturday
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/24/2007 13:21:26

Good Morning!

Did you brave the crowds yesterday to spend, spend, spend??

Or did you support Buy Nothing Day?

I was skimming the internets this morning, but most of my usual Libertarian haunts are looking pretty thin, or are chock full of the usual Ron Paul stuff, so I decided to skip all that today.

Instead, we'll go with an interesting piece of fiction, titled "An ancient mandate for national security", presented in its entirety.

Black Friday
Author: BobR    Date: 11/23/2007 13:41:56

Yesterday was a day of excess and gluttony of the gastronomic variety. Today is Black Friday, a day of excess and gluttony of the consumerism variety. It's the "Friday after Thanksgiving Sales" day, and - with dollars stretched further than they have in a long time - it promises to be as fierce as ever, with shoppers looking for the biggest bargains they can find.

There will be the traffic and "parking" reports on the news stations, stores opening before the chickens are up (and people waiting in line for the doors to open), extra-special sale prices only good for one day and even then only good from 7AM to noon. Undoubtedly, we will see news reports tonight of fights that broke out or people that got trampled in a stampede.

All this for Jesus's birthday party. I'm sure He would be happy...
