No More Lawyer Jokes, ya hear?
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 12/23/2007 14:11:54

Where o where have our upstanding lawyers been? You know, the one's that care about justice? There must be some out there, yes?

Well happy day - they have come forward recently. A group of lawyers have signed the following statement and hope to gather more. There goal is the same as mine: HEARINGS on unconstitutional criminal activity by the bush mafia, aka "administration".

We, the undersigned lawyers in the United States, have been inspired by the many lawyers in Pakistan who have risked their own liberty and careers in an effort to preserve their nation's freedoms.

Their courage has deepened our own resolve to defend the rule of law in our nation. As lawyers, we have both a moral and professional responsibility to preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States.

To that end, we are committed to creating a movement of lawyers in this nation dedicated to monitoring and, when appropriate, challenging the actions of our government when those actions threaten our nation's freedoms.

As our initial act, we are issuing the following statement to the U.S. House and Senate Judiciary Committees, urging hearings into the unconstitutional and possibly criminal actions of the Bush Administration.

Message to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy from
American Lawyers Defending the Constitution

We are lawyers in the United States of America. As such, we have all taken an oath obligating us to defend the Constitution and the rule of law from those who would violate and subvert them, and to hold wrongdoers accountable.

We believe the Bush administration has committed numerous offenses against the Constitution and may have violated federal laws. Evidence exists that it has illegally spied on Americans, tortured and abused men and women in its direct custody, sent others to be tortured by countries like Syria and Egypt, and kept people in prison indefinitely with no chance to challenge the bases of their detention. Moreover, the administration has blatantly defied congressional subpoenas, obstructing constitutional oversight of the executive branch.

Thus, we call on House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers and Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy to launch hearings into the possibility that crimes have been committed by this administration in violation of the Constitution, federal statutes, and international treaties. We call for the investigations to go where they must, including into the offices of the President and the Vice President. Should these hearings demonstrate that laws have in fact been broken by this administration, we support all such legal and congressional actions necessary to ensure the survival of our Constitution and the nation we love.

If you are a lawyer or law student, or you know one, have them go here to add their name: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/2165/t/2629/signUp.jsp?key=2843

BTW, everyone, Thom Hartmann is on Booknotes today at C-SPAN 2 today at Noon and 10 PM. I set my DVR to record it. It's from his appearance at the Strand, the one I wasn't quite sick enough to get to.

The malls are open until Midnight. Glad I don't have to shop.

Comment by velveeta jones on 12/23/2007 20:41:39
I actually went shopping early this morning to see if I could find any Christmas deals. I usually get stocked up for next season with ribbons, paper, etc at 1/2 price or better. This year .........nothing worthwhile.

Though Target, the Mall and Lowes............all empty!! In fact, at Lowes there were more employees than shoppers.

Would that be chikkin as in buscoms, umphf and meoweeeeeeeeeee? And the classic I AM NOT GOING OVER THAT BRIDGE!!!! this is not MMB it is a substitute known as Gen. R.E.Lee aka GIN GIN he is in on the plan with other felines which are lead by a cool guy we like to call RIO BABY aka BIG DADDY. I know I am nothing but when I saw that on the 22nd it made me think of those crazy cats and the things they say. Rubbing paws quickly together and MEOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Rio will never forgive the secrets Gin Gin told in a weak moment in the buscoms of his blonde mommy. And yes I MMB have lost my remaining mind to those who have no idea what I am talking about. But it was funny if you were there. My apoligies to others. And Gin Gin says hi to sassy cassie and mild missy.

Hello all, you have homework this evening. You need to watch Sports Center on ESPN so you see the hightlight reel of Warren Sapp being ejected from the game here today. Not one, not two, but THREE, thats right, THREE unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in a row. Not only did he get sent to the showers, it let the Jag score on of the 7 TDs they had today.

And tonight at work, I have the Rangers hosting Ottawa. This probably won't be pretty.

ya know Cedric Daniels gets a bump up to Col. & command of CID then he goes out buys himself a Caddy. Some of you will understand this. All of you should but no, some of you still haven't listened and not been watching "The Wire." When all of you start and thank me, you know where to find me.
