Putting his money where his mouth is? Eric Cantor, the Republican Whip in the House of Representatives, bought up to $15,000 in shares of ProShares Trust Ultrashort 20+ Year Treasury ETF last December, according to his 2009 financial disclosure statement. The exchange-traded fund takes a short position in long-dated government bonds. In effect, it is a bet against U.S. government bonds...

Okay let me ask this since I really don't understand the whole stock market thing as it stands today - for some reason I thought that the reason you bought shares was to invest in a company not to "bet" on things, isn't that really how the stock market got started - looking for people to invest?

Ya know, this whole McCrystal thing is pissing me off. Maybe this is indicative of what's wrong with this President.
Here we have a clear case of insubordination and questioning of Presidential Authority, and what does he do? He calls the General back for a conference.
If it were me, I would have called his ass and said "Mr. McChrystal (and not using his title would be intentional), I want you to pack up all your stuff and get on the next plane to Pearl. Meet the MPs there, and I'll see you at your court-martial.)
Sorry folks....he's starting to lose me.

I'd rather have him call him back home from the theatre than firing him while he is still over there.
I tend to think that KO had a pretty good idea about this. He said Obama should not accept his resignation and instead demote his ass down to paper pusher.
I don't know if I agree, But I would rather Obama has his balls in a desk drawer as opposed to being fired and suddenly turning upon FauxNooz as a *commentator*
I don't know if you are aware of this, Tri -- But Paul Reikoff doesn't think he should be fired. He said so yesterday on Ed Shultz. I was shocked to hear that myself.

Quote by Raine:
WE WON??? WE WON!!!! WOOHOO!
It's not treason, not at that level. Come on people. But it is dangerous.
This entire situation reminds me of the movie "Almost Famous" (based on the experiences of real life Rolling Stone Reporting Cameron Crowe, wherein the rock band knows the Rolling Stone reporter is "the enemy," but they get too close to him, open themselves up, and in the end, he writes everything they said in their false sense of security and confidence. I guess that's a reporter's job, getting people to feel comfortable with them so they can print gossip.
I was born on military base. My father served his entire adult life, and his service inspired myself and all 4 of my brothers to serve. Gen. McChrystal was out of line in the extreme, and the furor over his remarks demonstrates why military members are bound to stay away from political opining. Imagine if the right and the tea baggers, latch onto this man, and he, in turn, is so gratified, in the midst of all this criticism he's being hit with, that he becomes their champion . . . this is how military coops begin.
I do sympathize with Gen. McChrystal, but his remarks, and those attributed to him, are not only extremely improper, but non-specific, non-constructive, juvenile gossip and sniping. I have gone back and forth on whether Pres. Obama should remove him from his assignment. On the one hand, he may be the best possible person for this very difficult job, and the General has served with incredible distinction and honor. On the other hand, allowing the General to get away with this kind of insubordination and grossly inappropriate behavior AGAIN, does not set a good precedent, nor a good example for the rest of the military. In the end, this is Pres. Obama's decision, and given that he is a man who doesn't seem to have such a giant ego that he can't admit when he is wrong, change his mind, and apologize himself, I think he will make the decision based upon what he believes is best for the country.
However, Gen. McChrystal may have apologized, but whether he stays or goes, he needs to speak to the troops and affirm for them them in no uncertain terms, why this type of behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable. A man of lesser rank would be punished for this. I have no doubt about it.
This is a very sad day for the military in my opinion, and for that, the General has yet to make amends. There's no one who should be proud of this piece in Rolling Stone. It's a set up, and this reporter should be ashamed of himself.

Not just the game, we also won the group for the first time since 1930. Yes, 1930!
I think one of the cooler things about the game was the shot of someone in the stands holding a red, white and blue "YES WE CAN" sign.

Two people have died in the clearing up of an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the US Coast Guard has said.
The deaths occurred in two separate incidents, Coast Guard Adm Thad Allen said, without giving further details.
Adm Allen also said BP had to remove a cap containing some of the oil gushing from the well after an underwater robot bumped into the venting system.

I disagree with the premise that the economy is better under the Republicans. They so thoroughly wrecked it in 2008 that we are still trying to recover. Like the oil spill in the Gulf, the groundwork was laid by the Republicans, and now the Democrats have to clean up the mess.
