A pol-fect Storm?
Author: Raine    Date: 01/10/2008 13:26:46

So what really happened in NH?

There seems to be a lot of questions out there, and not just from myself. the Polls were wrong, the polls were wrong! My kingdom! the polls were wrong!

Now, I am not trying to be all on everyone. I really am not. I think what we saw in NH was a perfect storm of everything that is wrong with media coverage, the voting system, and America's need for instant gratification. NH voters DO take voting seriously, and I do believe that the polls WERE wrong to a large extent. I saw one poll yesterday that differentiated between undecided and undeclared voters... ask yourself, is there a difference? I also believe that a large portion of republicans ended up voting for Hillary. I do not know if the pollster's took this phenomenon into account. That certainly affected the numbers. It is why I don't like anyone but my party voting in my party primary. Call me a segregationist, but I believe in this strongly. If I were an independent, then I believe I should be able to only vote for members of that party. These are Primaries, not the general election... But, I digress, another topic for another time.

There is another disturbing question here. Were the optical scanners used to count the votes legit? I actually saw this very issue get questioned on MSM yesterday. I was floored. I don't think they went far enough. From BlackBoxVoting.org:

New England voting machine firm has executive criminal record
They program every single voting machine in New Hampshire, Connecticut, almost all of Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine. But did state officials in five New England states ever do a criminal background check on this company's executives? Do the laws of these five states even ALLOW them to hire convicted criminals for services paid for by the state? What about over 500 local towns and municipalities?

According to my sources, LHS Marketing and Sales Director Ken Hajjar grew up with owner John Silvestro in Lawrence, Massachusetts. They both moved to Londonderry, New Hampshire, where Ken Hajjar was arrested, indicted, and pleaded guilty to "sale / CND" and sentenced to 12 months in the Rockingham County Correctional facility, and fined $2000. As things go for the politically connected, he was then given a deferred sentence and $1000 of his fine was suspended.
[...]

Hajjar doesn't limit his involvement in the voting machine business to sales. According to an interview conducted by Brad Friedman, Hajjar totes memory cards around in the trunk of his car and defends the boggling concept of swapping out memory cards during the middle of elections.

Hold onto your hats, there's more. Start with this YouTube video, if you haven't already seen it:

Bev Harris also wrote about this issue at Online Journal. The most significant part of this article is this:
Not only that, they have turned all the programming over to a sole source private company, taking vote counting for 81 percent of New Hampshire citizens out of the public domain.

LHS is not subject to public records requirements, as the government is, at least, not in New Hampshire. The control over memory card contents is absolute; when cards malfunction or get lost, LHS brings the replacements.

So the real question here should not be how could the polls be so wrong, but rather....who owns your vote?

With Supertsunamirapturemegahuge™ Tuesday coming it, there is little precious time to look into what kind of machines your state uses. I myself need to find out if my vote will indeed count and that the State of Georgia counts it and not some private company. You should too.

Very disturbing news indeed. You can take a poll on that. See you inside.
:peace: and
Raine

Check these numbers out.

With 99.66% of the vote counted for Dems, Hillary is at 38.99% and barack is at 36.39%.... seems to me that is a much smaller margin of victory than everyone is talking about.

Steph was wrong on one thing. When she criticized that one guy who said the people in New Hampshire were all old, she asked him about how old everyone in Iowa was.

Obama's camp admitted that they shipped in a slew of college kids from Iowa who were attending Illinois schools via bus. They participated in the caucuses for the very first time.

Obama's strategy essentially tilted the scaled in their favor. It's not against any rules, but it did give him a boost he might not have achieved otherwise.

Comment by m-hadley on 01/10/2008 15:03:52

I sorta wonder who Bush will endorse. Yes, it was mean. I know, but heck... I seriously think that a Kerry endorsement is nothing to be very proud of.

I don't think it has much meaning really. Kerry pissed me off in 04 I could careless about him since.

Hi Pam. I'm moving in a couple of weeks.

Actually, I realized yesterday that my pre-moving date is two weeks from yesterday. This time in two weeks, I'll be rattling around an almost empty apartment in Pittsburgh. Thus far no one from any of the blogs I'm on has admitted they live anywhere near Pittsburgh.

I wish I could find Shano in Pittsburgh......

Where are ya moving to?

I'm trying to think of people I respect as to who are they going to endorse, if anyone. At this point Carter maybe the only one, the rest at no longer with us. I would have cared know what people like JOhn and Bobby thought abd what Tip O'Neil thought - that's just off the top of my head though.

I'd thought I lost my SS card once and got a new one - thing what how I spell my name on my drvier's license is different from the way it was on my SS stuff, I had to cry to get the guy to change it. Emotional blackmail I know, but I did what I had to to get it. Now I just have to correct my birth certificate so I can get a freakin' passport.

Okay your gonna laugh at me for this - but did you know that every mythology around the world as a deluge myth leading anthropologist and archeologist and other scientist to believe there really was a "great flood" and it was possible that it aided in producing things like the Grand Canyon, the Dead Sea and other natural wonders.

Just received from the Richardson campaign:

Dear TriSec,

It is with great pride, understanding and acceptance that I am ending my campaign for President of the United States. It was my hope that all of you would first hear this news from me and not a news organization. But unfortunately, as with too many things in our world today, it's the ending of something that garners the most intense interest and speculation.

I knew from the beginning that this would be an uphill climb. When I entered the campaign, it was clear that we, as Democrats, had the most talented field of candidates in my lifetime running to change the direction of our country. And in the end, one of them will.

Despite overwhelming financial and political odds, I am proud of the campaign we waged and the influence we had on the issues that matter most to the future of this country.

*snip*

Now that my time in this national campaign has come to an end, I would urge those who supported my candidacy to take a long and thoughtful look at the remaining Democrats. They are all strong contenders who each, in their own way, would bring desperately needed change to our country. All I ask is that you make your own independent choice with the same care and dedication to this country that you honored me with during this campaign. At this time, I will not endorse any candidate.

Now I am returning to a job that I love, serving a state that I cherish and doing the work of the people I was elected to serve. As I have always said, I am the luckiest man I know. I am married to my high school sweetheart. I live in a place called the Land of Enchantment. I have the best job in the world. And I just got to run for president of the United States.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Ha! The hell with AT&T!

I'm going with broadband phone and saving money for a change.

AT&T: $30/Mo for local calls only (no toll or long distance) with only caller ID and call waiting included. $9 extra for voicemail; and $3 per month for the privilege of being unlisted. Startup fee: $65

DSL: $20/Mo for basic service; free modem but $20 for mailing costs. Startup fee: $45.

VOIP: $15/mo for unlimited calls in all Pittsburgh area codes; $.03 per minute for all of North America. Startup fee: $30

DSL: $30/mo for basic service; free modem - no cost for mailing. Startup fee: $30

And someone actually comes to your home to setup everything.

Here's hoping this broadband phone and DSL combined are worth it.
