First I would like to add what I think may be the official cocktail of 4F....

The Raintini

Very simple and DELISH!

Get Stoli Vanilla, (or your fave vanilla wodka) count to 5 while pouring in shaker over ice. Add a splash of Seltzer and shake.

The key to this is make sure you don't use too much seltzer... or it will explode, which was historically a good way to see how rough or soft you bartender is, if you are having them make one for you...

Put three marichino cherries in a chilled glass, and if you'd like, a few drops of the juice... strain the liquid as you pour!

These two were supplied to us from our Loyal TriSec :

TriSec's Martini Recipe:

(note, Bobr and TriSec have had multiple discussions regarding the merits of Gin vs. Vodka, with no resolution. Suffice to say, this will work with either distilled beverage.)

1. About a day before you want one, place your vodka in the freezer and the vermouth in the fridge. (vermouth will freeze.)

2. The morning you want to drink your martini, rinse a martini glass and place it in the freezer.

3. When you want your martini, retrieve the glass and swirl a bit of vermouth into the bottom. (it will freeze on contact.)

4. Place a single Goya "Queen" stuffed Spanish olive in the bottom of the glass

5. Fill with the syrupy, not-quite-frozen spirits to your desired level.

6. Put "Kind of Blue" on the stereo, sit back, and enjoy!

7. Repeat as needed.

"Scurvy-tini"

so named because it is high in Vitamin C, and thus helps to ward off scurvy:

1 oz pineapple juice

1 oz orange juice

1 pineapple chunk

Vodka to suit

Pour all the liquid ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker, let it rest for a few minutes to chill appropriately, shake just to combine well, pour into a martini glass and garnish with the pineapple chunk.

m-hadley provides us with one of two margarita recipes:

Jose's Killer Margaritas

Two parts Jose Cuervo

One part freshly squeezed lime juice

One part Grand Marnier (or a generiuc Triple Sec - if you are on a budget)

Gently stirred in a pitcher then poured over a salt-rimmed glass with crushed ice - drink and enjoy (I recommend putting a little Gipsy Kings on the juke box)

And here is Bobr's Margarita recipe!

2 parts tequila (I like Jose Cuervo too!)

2 parts mix (see below)

1 part orange liquour (Grand Marnier or otherwise)

1 part OJ

Shake together with ice and pour (ice included) into a salt-rimmed glass.

Homeade Margarita Mix:

=========

Juice from 5 limes

Juice from 2 lemons

Juice from 1 orange

Dissolve 1 C sugar in water

Mix everything together and add water to make 2 quarts

Gee I feel like piker.

Go to beer store, buy six-pack of good beer (domestic micro-brew or import).

Open bottle

Drink.

Doesn't sound like a piker to me.

Beer is also to be a topic of discussion, here... ;)

Mark from Verona WI ( friend of ours over at the SMS blog) supplies this tasty liquiditiy

Reggae Rush

1 1/2 shots good quality vodka

1/2 shot Malibu Mango Rum

1/4 shot Blue Curacao

1 cup OJ

1 cup lemonade

Serve with fair amount of ice in a tall glass.

I discovered this drink at a restaurant in Wisconsin Dells, WI last fall. Really very good.

Caprinhia:

1.5 oz Cachaca

1 jigger of powered sugar, water added to dissolve

juice of 1/2 lime

ice

Shake vigorously, then empty into short glass containing the squeezed-out lime half.

These are tart/tangy, refreshing, and lethal ... adjust sugar to taste. Cachaca (pronounced "cah-sha-sah) is Brazilian "rum" - it does not taste like rum, but it's made from sugarcane

Since I'm still stocking up my serving bar, I'm going to use this blog post to ask about stuff I need for the bar.

I have a fair amount of liquids and cool drinks glasses (champagne, martini/margarita, wine and highball). I've also got an ice bucket , small shaker and a jigger.

What other sorts of things do I need to set up a bar?

Comment by Raine on 06/28/2008 21:51:04
 I have been remiss at visting this blog...

ShelaghC, I would suggest always keeping a jar of marachino cherries, some seltzer, tonic and other non sweetened fizzy beverages.

IF you cannot keep fresh citrus fruits, Lime and Rose juice are also recommened.

Time to bump this baby... I got this recipe from a friend on Facebook...

Kahluha!

4 c. sugar

4 c. water

2/3 c. instant coffee

2 c. vodka

3 tbsp. vanilla

Mix; simmer 30 minutes. Cool. Bottle in containers.

I use both vanilla extract and 1 vanilla bean sliced down the middle and dropped into the bottle; also half vodka and half bourbon is ok too instead of all vodka.
