Missing, Lost, Embezzled.
Author: Raine    Date: 06/13/2011 12:51:50

From this morning's LA Times:
This month, the Pentagon and the Iraqi government are finally closing the books on the program that handled all those Benjamins. But despite years of audits and investigations, U.S. Defense officials still cannot say what happened to $6.6 billion in cash — enough to run the Los Angeles Unified School District or the Chicago Public Schools for a year, among many other things.

For the first time, federal auditors are suggesting that some or all of the cash may have been stolen, not just mislaid in an accounting error. Stuart Bowen, special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, an office created by Congress, said the missing $6.6 billion may be "the largest theft of funds in national history."
Isn't this something we have all at the very least suspected for years?

I'm going to leave this out there today, and hopefully it will get a bit of a news lead. How, after over a half a decade, the Pentagon can't find such a large amount of money is beyond me. Stolen or not, someone should be held responsible for losing such a large sum of money -- Didn't Bernard Madoff go to jail for something just like this? Sadly, it looks like the taxpayer is once again footing the bill. After more than 7 years, no one has been held accountable for anything regarding this illegal action in Irag. Now we have what appears to be bona fide embezzlement.

In the meantime, watch the GOP try to protect the likes of KBR, Halliburton and the company formerly known as Blackwater (Now known as Xe.). They are, after all, businesses who need MORE taxcuts to get the free market back on it's feet.

War really IS a racket.

and
Raine

Morning

Yes, someone needs to be held accountable for all that money. Cashiers are made to pay up when their drawers are short in everyday life, someone needs to pay up for what we've been shorted

I thought Randi was on this embezzlement thing a few years ago. And things were set in such a way that no one could be held responsible because we had no jurisdiction over Iraquis.

If the Pentagon doesn't seem to mind if 6.6bn goes missing, that means there'd be no problem if we cut 6.6bn off their budget, right? Or maybe 13.2bn, or maybe 19.8bn. I'm sure they could make do with 66bn less....

I'm actually building a little circuit thingy today to help me with my programming. I'm gonna need much stronger glasses :(

Anyway, since I posted it late yesterday, here's a little play session with Cleo.

A belated good day to everyone!

It's quiet here today and I didn't sleep very well this morning. A lot of off and on.

Thom never will.

As much as it makes me angry, he's looking for a bipartisan audience.

Just hearing that we lost a veteran....airplane.

Liberty Belle crashed and burned today, but all aboard survived. Now there are only 11 flying B-17s left.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Too bad the Bruins can't score in Vancouver to save their lives.

Comment by trojanrabbit on 06/14/2011 00:54:34
I'm waiting for Tim Thomas to say that he could have made the saves that Luongo missed. Should have kept your mouth shut Roberto.

Classless Bruins fans when the Vancouver player was injured though.

You're brave Raine, but I think watching that would make me sick. I've loved the "cleaning Santorum" comment on twitter.

I really think the men in white coats could come and put all the GOP candidates in rubber rooms.
