Gay Chickens
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 08/05/2012 14:21:04

Apparently while I was busy watching the Olympics there was some large bruhaha over a fast food chain that makes crappy, yet addictive, fake chicken and waffle fries. Really? Has it come to this?

Seems the president of said crappy chain, Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy told a North Carolina Baptist website that he supported the "biblical definition of the family unit." When the story was picked up in mid-July by the Baptist Press, it quickly became the religious publisher's most-read article of 2012.

Supporters argue that he has free speech, that this is a privately owned company, blah, blah, blah.... we've heard it all before. It's always the same with these narrow minded people, "don't take away [insert American hero here] right to FREE SPEECH, our troops fought for [his/her] right to say whatever they want. USAUSAUSA!!" Unless of course they are the Dixie Chicks, but, yes, I understand. Mr. Cathy can say what he wants.

My problem is not with what he says, but what he does. Is that okay Mr. Right Wing guy? He can stand tall and proud of his "traditional marriage" stance as long as he wants. What concerns me, and many others, are what he does with the millions of millions of dollars that CFA puts into Mr. Cathy's pocket. He is a billionaire.

Cathy has previously donated money to groups like Family Research Council and Marriage and Family Foundation, both groups work to strengthen and promote criminalization of same-sex relations. I would not be out of line saying that these groups would probably welcome the death penalty for the sin of homosexuality. They are that extreme.

But you know all of this. I'm not telling you anything new here.

Since Mr. Cathy is a devout Christian, I wanted to know what Jesus said about gay marriage and chicken. Seems not much. Depending on which version of the Bible you read. I, like most of you, have the KJV up on my shelf. But newer translations seem to have Jesus talking about all kinds of things! Including homosexuality (he's against it as if your surprised) and abortion (ditto) and even cell phone technology.

With each new version of the Bible, Jesus seems to be getting a bit braver in his stance for these sinful things. As well, the Bible keeps getting, er, how should I put this, easier to understand, for us Americans. That's odd, since we should be getter smarter as more of us have access to higher education. But yes, it seems with each new version the reading grade level goes down. The American Standard Version, written in 1901 was written at a 12th grade level, but by the time we get to The English Standard Version written in 2001 we've dumbed it down to at a 6th grade level.

Silly me, I didn't even know we were writing new Bibles. Maybe I should try my hand at it? I could write a best seller in no time!

Okay, I was kidding about Jesus condemning Cell Phones, but in someone's version, somewhere, I'll bet Jesus hated the iPhone and all it's apps. Who can blame him.

I believe that Jesus would have eaten at Chick-Fil-A on Huckabee's "appreciation day" if he were alive today. I also believe he'd be out there the next day supporting all the gay love. That's kinda the guy he is.

IN the beginning, there was nothing. Then, there was something.

GOD saw what he had done and said, "That's cool."

On another day, GOD created MAN. MAN quickly discovered his penis, but GOD wasn't having any part of that, so he created WOMAN, and they got busy.

The children of GOD were vicious, and spent much of their time and energy destroying each other and their cities, until GOD said "Fuck this shit", and hit the reset button.

One of those that did not disobey GOD was ordered to bring two of each animal into a giant ship that was fortunately not named "Titanic". When the flood receded, they hit dry land and tried to start over.

To show that maybe he meant that it was OK to love a person, not their anatomy, GOD created a rainbow.

THE END.

Now for something that breaks my heart.

My sympathies go out today to those wounded and terrorized at a Sikh Temple near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am saddened at the violence in our country and the fact that people who should not have guns have committed another senseless act in our nation. I think that we need to have an honest conversation about guns in our country. I have nothing against responsible gun owners, but surely we can do something to prevent further travesties such as this from the WTMJ 620 AM in Milwaukee:

7 dead, including shooter, after massacre at Sikh temple in Oak Creek

OAK CREEK - Oak Creek, Wis. Police said that at least seven people are dead, including a shooter, during a massacre at a Sikh temple on Sunday.

A police officer was also shot and was in surgery at Froedtert Hospital, according to police spokesman Bradley Wentlandt.

Two others were also being treated at Froedtert for shooting wounds. They were in critical condition, according to initial reports.

They said they were preparing for more victims in a "mass casualty incident."

"The emergency medical personnel, the tactical personnel who have gone through the scene, they have initially identified what they believe to be four deceased inside the temple, and three deceased outside the temple, one of whom is the shooter," said Wendtlandt.

Police did not initially identify any additional gunman on scene, but did not rule out the possibility of additional shooters.

Sikhs. Probably the most patient, noble, and honourable people on earth. (I've had the privilege of knowing several.)

But because they wear turbans....

I read that A shooter was taken down but there was as till a hostage thing.

I HATE gun violence.

I have not known any Sikhs personally, but I have a deep respect for their faith.

TriSec, I know that Balbir Singh Sodhi was murdered in Mesa, AZ on September 15, 2001. I mourned that senseless act of violence and I mourn today's violence.

As a member of a religious minority, I know what it is like to be afraid of my fellow Americans. If I go to the Jewish Federation of Chicago, I have to empty my pockets and go through a scanner like I would if I was going to a court. There also were some incidents in the past.

Let us, regardless of our beliefs, stand together in rejecting violence and hatred. I love this country, but at times I fear it and fear for it. Today is one of those days.

HE had a 911 tattoo.
Kaleka was not at the temple at the time of the shooting, but helped police interview witnesses in the aftermath. He said members described the attacker as a bald, white man, dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants and with a 9/11 tattoo on one arm -- which "implies to me that there's some level of hate crime there."

I actually like the Chick-fil-a food, I think it's very good. I used to respect them for being closed on Sundays, because to me it was them putting their money where their mouths are.

Once it became clear that they were donating money to anti-gay groups, though, I had to cut them off.

and oh yeah - only the government can curtail freedom of speech. So to the teabaggers.
