In a wrongful termination lawsuit, the former head of Sands operations in Macau has accused billionaire gambling mogul and Republican supporter Sheldon Adelson of links to organized crime, approving prostitution in his casinos, and making questionable payments to Chinese government officials. Adelson strongly denies any wrongdoing. NBC News' Ian Williams reports.

That's the whole 'profit-driven' society that drives me mad sometimes. If that 14 cents per pizza thing circulating on FB is to be believed, then do it the capitalist way and raise the pizza cost by 14 freakin' cents instead of cutting off your employees.
Or better yet, take a cut on the profits and do the right thing. Anybody have any data on how many pizzas a year the chain sells, and what the cost breakdown might be?
Quote by TriSec:
OK, so Papa John's sells about 17 million pizzas a year.
At 14 cents per pizza, that's $2,380,000 for healthcare.
Which would reduce their 2011 net income from 55,655,000 to 53,275,000.
Boo freakin' hoo.

You might have a point there. This blog is no way a microcosm of America (with all of us East-coast liberals), but nevertheless seeing what we all went through and now this turnaround....I do need to go "hmmmm....."

Say, how about a brief observation from your provincial Bostonian?
Having spent the weekend in the far Western reaches of this Commonwealth (Adams, MA...you could look it up.) I'm fairly amazed. The Northwest corner of this state is all college towns and artist communities...and things seemed to be thriving out there.
Driving through the area, there seemed to be little of the "urban blight" we tend to associate with recessions - the few strip malls out there were full, and very little sign of abandoned buildings or empty storefronts like I see around some of the Metrowest area.
Very interesting, to say the least.

Good morning, bloggers!!
TriSec, thanks for sharing this great experience with us. I have never been in the western part of Massachusetts, but it appears lovely.
Here in the Chicago area, I see some shuttered businesses but others have opened.
As for myself, the job search continues. I will call a friend this week to see when she thinks mid year teaching jobs will open in the Bay State. I am also checking teaching jobs here as well as non-teaching jobs. At least I got two interviews recently after NOTHING for about a year. So, maybe things are looking up.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — More than 200 non-profit organizations are registered with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office.
Team 5 Investigates' questions to one local veterans charity and the telemarketer it hired to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars were met with angry responses and few answers.
Gerald Anacleto, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, tried to hide his face from Team 5 Investigates' cameras rather than talk about the nearly half-a-million dollars he's raised since 2009 as founder and president of Massachusetts Veterans Emergency Fund.
"Get away. Get away from me," Anacleto said when NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly asked to "talk about your non-profit."

That wouldn't have been necessary if that sesesh woman hadn't started it. They never learn. You see sesesh has to be cleared away by the hand of God like the Jews of old. Now I will have to burn this town.
