Let's get this week going...
Author: Raine    Date: 01/07/2013 14:02:02

First full week of the New year! What do you have going on?

I'm looking at a few stories, and I swear it's like nothing has changed with this new congress.

Shutting down government, birthrights crap, attacking women, Chuck Hagel is too liberal, evils of John Brennan and other assorted conservative nuttery.

I'll be back.

Raine

Well this is interesting.

Eliot Spitzer, the former New York governor turned progressive television host, said Sunday that his show on Current TV is over.

The announcement comes a few days after Al Jazeera said it was acquiring Current TV. Later this year, the Qatar-owned broadcaster plans to turn the channel into an Americanized version of the international news channel Al Jazeera English.

Mr. Spitzer said he had a “wonderful time” at Current, but emphasized that his relationship was with Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, Current’s co-founders, not with Al Jazeera. “Moving forward, their mission will be different,” he said — more international newscasts, less liberal talk about the news.

Mr. Spitzer’s 8 p.m. program on Current, “Viewpoint,” was the centerpiece of the channel’s fledgling prime-time schedule. He said the time slot would have a new host starting on Monday.

A Current spokeswoman said Sunday that Mr. Spitzer “has chosen to step back from hosting ‘Viewpoint.’ Until further notice the show will be hosted by John Fugelsang.”

Comment by wickedpam on 01/07/2013 15:08:27
yeah, I didn't think they were going to keep any of the programming and to be honest I think Al-J is going to lose all the placements that Current fought to get so they are going to be back to square one.

Wanna know something really messed up?

Traci Lords, from Stuebenville Ohio gave this interview to Larry King in 2003 Traci Lords is 44 years old.

KING: What age did it start, your abuse?

LORDS: Ten.

(CROSSTALK)

KING: And it was your father?

LORDS: No, it was a boy from school, an older boy that I had a crush on. He was 16 and I was 10 years old. I mean, you don't really have a boyfriend when you're 10 years old.
That was 1978. She was still in Ohio. She has an older sister.

I will say that I do like seeing Brennan being named as head of CIA.

Great....chronic peripheral neuropathy.

As the amount of oxaliplatin you take accumulates over several treatments, the risk of a longer-lasting sensory neuropathy in your hands and feet goes up. Initially this may be tingling or a feeling of pins and needles. Some patients may go on to have numbness and find it difficult to do small tasks with their hands like buttoning a shirt. In some cases, neuropathy can cause pain and difficulty with daily life, including walking or balancing.

Oxaliplatin-induced neuropathy usually gets better once the drug is stopped, although some patients will experience an increase in symptoms after treatment ends that then fades.

Hey Scoop. I'm going to do some research....if the "medicine" helps with neuropathy, I may take you up on your previous offer.

Oh, and we picked up a copy of an old favorite board game for Three Kings yesterday. Anybody played "LIFE" recently? It's far more complex than I remember, and it seems to have been re-designed by either Mormons or Republicans; it's overrun with babies and lawsuits now. (We had one car limp into retirement with a Duggar amount of children in it, and easily a million dollars changed hands yesterday on the various lawsuits that I don't remember from older versions of the game.)

Let us discuss for a moment town center style malls are in climates that have hot, humid summers that are prone to sudden thunderstorms. Do the words, "bad idea" come to mind?

Good day, folks. It does seem like Al-Jazeera acquired Current because Al-Jazeera English has had difficulty getting distribution in the US because of the whole image as
"the terrorist news network" even though it has wide distribution in other parts of the world but it's not like a lot of people get CNN International, BBC World (although Comcast and Time Warner have begun to ramp that one up), or RT (despite carriage on Time Warner). I could see a lot of providers doing what Time Warner did as soon as the sale was announced and pulling the channel when it changes format. At least, Al-Jazeera ownership hasn't hurt beIn Sport in its efforts to get US distribution and they have benefited in getting the rights to the European Soccer Leagues that previously were on Gol TV.

they've actually done pretty well here, and Landmark was a "town centre" before they were popular but then they enclosed it and made it 2 story's and it started to fail. Reston and Herndon have nice Town Centre's and Leesburg Corner is very busy all year.

2 story's?
Really, Mala? Really? Two stories is what you meant to say, right?

Moving forward from my grammar pet peeve, perhaps my loathing is just based on my experience with the Town Center here. There isn't adequate parking despite the joint only being about six or so years old. The traffic is just a nightmare because of the horrible road infrastructure. it is just a terrible, terrible place to go shop. Not to mention the weather issues.

RG3 aggravated his knee injury early in the game, at the time Washington was ahead 14-0. After that point, it was obvious he could not run or throw long, and it got worse as the game went along.

Seattle had gone ahead late in the game. While reaching for a bad snap from center, RG3 twisted his knee and went down in extreme pain (and lost the ball). Seattle scored a few plays later and that was it.

In the view of many, RG3 should have been removed from the game when he first aggravated the injury. Now, pending MRI results, surgery is probably required, and possibly a long (like next season) recuperation.

Blame is being heaped upon Coach Shanahan, for even playing RG3 because it looks like he was never medically cleared to play, or at the least not pulling him when it was obvious he was hurting the team.

Lots of blame also goes to the horrible field conditions, the Seattle kicker injured himself (during warmups I think) and another Seattle player suffered a season ending injury. I heard that they had to paint the field green, it was in such bad shape.

Fark headline ---- RG3 wins the Theismann Trophy.

Well, I did not get the job I interviewed for last week. However, the assistant principal referred me to another school and I called this morning. I have an interview tomorrow at 10:30 AM at the school I was referred to and on Friday at 10 AM at another school. Hopefully, this is a sign that I will be working soon.

Hopefully, something will turn up. It gets frustrating doing all those interviews and having nothing come of them. Although have schools in the Chicago area been effected by the push for Charter Schools and any other cuts that might be initiated. And in Indiana, they are probably being effected by GOP cuts.

That field was in WRETCHED condition.

And count me among the many that believe RGIII should have been pulled when the injury was apparent. They could have checked him out, given him some cortisone and possibly had him back in the game after halftime.

They should have NEVER played him in the Eagles game. This is on the coaching staff.

I'm glad we had the bye this week.

Although there was a scintillating college basketball game here - BC almost beat the Wolfpack in the ACC opener.

(I'm happy both ways, BC is my hockey team, so seeeing their basketball counterparts play well was a good thing, and I started watching basketball way back when for the 1983 NCAA title...which the Wolfpack won. Haven't missed a title game since.)

And one month from today is the Beanpot!

Listening to a vintage radio program (Superman, Circa 1947 or so). One of the vintage ads is for defunct "Kellogg's Pep", a Wheaties competitor.

They are pushing a recipe called "Date Bait", which will allegedly "bait" your appetite. (It's just cut-up dates mixed with the cereal.)

I'm sure they did this with complete innocence....because it sure sounds like something else now.

There was a previous recipe where you mix the cereal with "gay" fruit salad....

Also didn't realize until just now that Adrian Peterson blew his knee out on this same field.

If the NFL REALLY cared about player safety/health, they'd be going after Dan Snyder until he had a professional (or even high school) quality field installed.
