Time to get something good going on.
There has been far too much sickness, death and sadness around here. This being a generally political and socially aware blog, I'm choosing to say this:
I am proud that we have Barack Hussein Obama as our President. Unabashedly proud.
There is a small but vocal minority who will find fault in everything this man has done -- or will do. You see it. It's on TV, social media and in public.
This President and his administration has saved our auto industry, stopped our economy from sinking, and given us health care reform. He's winding down our war in Afghanistan and we are done fighting in Iraq. He pushed to repeal DADT. He's is no longer enforcing DOMA -- he has come out for marriage equality. We have tax fairness. Jobs are on the uptick, unemployment is going down. He is respected among world leaders. Osama Bin Laden is dead.
Now is taking on the gun violence problem in our country.
All of these things have happened, and more, in his first term in office.
I don't care if I am called a fangirl, I am proud of this president and the choices he has had to make. I trust that he has good intentions. I feel secure in knowing that he does what is right for the country. I believe his heart is in the right place.
In spite of obstruction from so many corridors, hallways and offices of the nations capital -- look at how far we have come in just four years. Sometimes it is easy to miss the forest for the trees, but today I say sit back and look around. Look at the trees, the fauna, the flowers -- growth that has happened while we struggle.
I take great hope hope that we are going to continue our slow but forward moving progress. Sunday, the President will begin his second term in office. He's going to have our back for four more years, that is something to be happy about.
I've got his back in return. Without question, I've got his back. I'm proud to do so.

Raine, I think that the President has done much but I would like him to do more. Mind you, doing anything in face of a Republican Party that is the most conservative incarnation of that party in a century.

I think we rarely discuss personal finances here, but I am pleased to report that for the first time in what feels like years, we've made it through one pay cycle without any "love notes" from the bank.
This is why I traded in an 11 mile commute for 40 (one way). Of course, my appendix had other ideas last year, which wound up crushing us, but I'm encouraged so far that 2013 might finally be a turnaround year in these parts.
I think we rarely discuss personal finances here, but I am pleased to report that for the first time in what feels like years, we've made it through one pay cycle without any "love notes" from the bank.
This is why I traded in an 11 mile commute for 40 (one way). Of course, my appendix had other ideas last year, which wound up crushing us, but I'm encouraged so far that 2013 might finally be a turnaround year in these parts.

British Naval Officer Eric Brown, who interviewed Irma Grese for Nuremburg, called her "The worst human being I have ever met."
Remarkably, Mr. Brown is still alive (aged 93), so perhaps a meeting with Rush can be arranged so Mr. Brown can re-assess his opinion.

It's interesting...I never got any of the taste changes or appetite suppression while I was on "Satan's Drool". But when they changed the regimen, over the last month or so I've noticed that water 'tastes like chemo'. Flavored beverages are still OK.

Like an idiot, when I stopped by last night for the second blood test in two days, I had them take it out of the same arm. It's now essentially useless for anything but typing and even that's an adventure. So I have a "dead" wing, and a scratched foot, courtesy of Sophie, who got spooked while I was getting her food and decided to use my foot as a launching pad.
Doc ordered me some meds on Tuesday that will hopefully get my blood sugar under control. Was a bit worried that I hadn't heard from the online store about the new scripts yet. Downloaded the CVS app to my phone this morning and BINGO, my meds have shipped.
I have a new "neighbor" in my lab space....a temperature chamber. I don't think it heats well enough to function as a pizza oven, however
. Just hope it isn't too noisy.
For some reason I still have Superb Owl (the last one) on my TiVo so I pulled it off and de-commercialized it (which means instead of a 30GB file it's a 19GB file). I think I was always intending to present my Giants fanatic brother-in-law with a DVD of the game. Might be a nice surprise for Sunday.

When and if this small group of hyperbolic and histrionic Americans decides to stop resisting all attempts at dialogue, and can promise to not derail every discussion with hissy-fits and absurd claims that no gun laws ever work, when they are ready to stop insisting that every regulation is equal to prohibition, when they fucking grow up and stop pretending as if guns are benign implements of peace except only in the hands of the wicked, when they realize that the Second Amendment promises them to never have their guns ripped away by Federal authorities, and when they see that their fellow Americans who do wish to engage in dialogue and discussion are not the enemy, but instead someone with a desire to find ways to keep more innocents from being slaughtered, this proclamation will be null and void. They will be welcome back with open arms.
Until that day, I hereby emancipate the sane and rational majority from the tyranny of the small but extremely vocal minority. We can fear not, friends. There is not a violent uprising coming. President Obama does not have the legal authority to steal everyone’s guns. And he has no intention of doing that, and I promise you all that he will not, ever. And so it is with that recognition of the reality of the situation that I proclaim us all free from the chains that bind our society and keep us from finding common ground, and prevent us from at least trying, which is all we really want to do anyway.â€

I am not a Gun Zealot. I do own more several firearms. I have pistols for target shooting and personal protection. My long guns (shotguns and rifles) are for mainly for hunting, with a few just for target shooting. However, I also own one AR-15, and it never occurred to me to use it to shoot human beings. I bought it because I live in rural Texas, and feral hogs are a serious problem. When encountering a herd of wild pigs, it is quite advantageous to be able to fire more than two or three rounds, and as rapidly as possible. So, I do use my AR-15 for hunting something other than people. If that qualifies me as a Gun Zealot in your book, so be it.
