Paula's crying little drops of butter
Author: AuntAzalea    Date: 2013-06-23 05:00:00

Velveeta is away on assignment today so I must put down my elitist liberal latte and do my best to fill in.

For those of us who don't just survive on granola, fresh organic strawberries washed down with fresh pressed organic wheatgrass juice, grown of course in our organic house garden, there has been a volcanic eruption of butter mixed with a big dollop of good ole-timey racism. Oh Paula Paula Paula...Miss Paula Deen slipped up, she didn't get the "lie and deny" memo.

But I digress, first let us enjoy a typical super fun dinner idea.

Three Meat Pasta Recipe

Now that I have eaten myself into an emergency room coma, l will drop my fork and explain.

The short version is Paula Deen is being sued by a former manager of one of her businesses and she had to take a deposition under oath. She admitted to using the bad n- word ( now I know you think it is "nutrition" but no, she never used that one..it is the Other bad word). That was bad enough but she had to admit that she had planned to do an antebellum southern wedding idea with black men dressed in white suits and black bowties serving the all white wedding party in an homage to the good old days of slavery. Uh-Oh..

I had to look farther into this latest media feeding frenzy celebrity (Mel Gibson is breathing a sigh of relief), so I went to her biography on her website:
"As a young girl growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paula Deen never dreamed she would become an American icon. As a young mother, Paula was living the American dream—married to her high school sweetheart, raising two adorable boys; when tragedy struck. Her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia. With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started “The Bag Lady,” a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen’s professional cooking."
So far so good, rather admirable actually, but then I found some clips of her actually speaking. Uh-Oh..

This cringe worthy clip is of the tragedy of her grandfather killing himself when he realized his 30 slaves left his plantation - "But they were like our family"

The Food Network announced that they will drop her at the end of the month. Oprah has taken off her in depth interview of her from the OWN Network. Oh snap.

I don't think any of the karma hitting her is necessarily wrong but I still have compassion for those big "Tammy Baker" eyes all weld up with tears of confusion and deep sorrow. None of her ignorant words surprised me, she is an uneducated woman who is self-made from a dirt poor childhood. What annoys me most is her utter lack of compassion for the people who truly suffered as slaves in a country that said it was legal and yet she made her fortune off the back of "southern" cooking which of course was greatly influenced by slaves - oh yeah, since they did the cooking. The Food Network Fires Paula

Alright.. Happy Sunday everyone..no worries, VJ will be back next week!

Awesome fill in Auntie A.

I say part of that NYT Talk interview yesterday -- and that just made me go -- ohno, no no no... She actually said that those 30 people were listed on her Great Grandfathers Payroll.

I'll be traveling today -- looking forward to getting home!

Paula just doesn't get it. And she had such great recipes too, like this amazing English Peas recipe (be sure to read the comments).

Auntie A - I did a little edit on your blog, just for formatting, not content. I hope you don't mind.

In a completely shocking and unexpected twist, I have seen some of my Facebook friends either write about the "incredible injustice" being done to Paula Deen or link to "I Support Paula Deen" groups, and they are uniformly....

(wait for it)

white.

I know, right? I'm just as shocked as you are.
