Good Monday Morning.
Author: Raine    Date: 04/07/2014 12:59:20

In my ongoing effort to rejuvenate myself, I will attempt to write a blog.

I spent a good portion of the weekend away from the internet. I started my garden. It was good to be in the dirt and feeling the warmth of the sun on my back.

It felt good. It seemed as though this winter would never end; perhaps it is more perception than actual truth, but it was a long cold winter. For some, it still lingers on.

I planted Dill, Catnip and Basil. There are a few more herbs to come. I may have to replant rosemary if my sad little bush doesn't make it back this year. Spinach, Carrots and lettuce are on the way, as is Bell peppers, bok choy and of course, Red Cabbage.

After today's rain, I will start the Cucumber mound. Next week tomatoes will be added. I'll be in the back yard cleaning the leaves that fell after the fall was supposedly over and see what flower bulbs will be returning. I already see signs of life from my purple and white coneflowers. The Hostas are coming out of hibernation.

As always, my bearded Iris are ready to burst on the scene and take over the yard. They will dwarf my already blooming hyacinths and mini daffodils. The tulips are slow to awaken from their winter slumber, but they are slowly rousing as well.

The weekend was sprinkled with little girls visiting to help me plant seeds. They are nearly four now, and they have a curiosity about gardening and plants. They are at an age now where they understand that seeds in the ground will become plants that we can visually enjoy and sometimes eat.

Their parents visited too - we sat on our steps shared a beverage and laughed. We all said we were happy to finally be able to enjoy the weather and see each other.

Spring is here. A rebirth is happening. It makes my soul smile.

Mornin' all!

It's a pretty nice day out there. A bit of a shame it's gonna start POURING later. Ah well at that point I'll be home, relaxing with a few beers and hopefully UConn will get to cut down some nets!

Morning

You mound your cucs? I'm gonna have to try that. Haven't been able to get good cucs since that first year. Not sure what I'm planting this year. I'd like to try kale but I think that's more a fall thing. So carrots, turnips, parsnips, potatoes again, not sure about the sweet potatoes yet, cucs, lots of sweet basil and bean. Have to check to see if my oregano is coming back and need to trim back the rosemary.

We have sort of defunct kids garden that I think I'm going to plant some berry bushes in. And this year we've got to find a way to build a 6-7' tall fence around the whole garden - the stealing is making everyone depressed and I'm doubting anyone is going to be growing tomatoes because of it.

I think I am going to make a hanging cherry tomato basket this year.

I'm finding I want to grow more spices, especially since they are so flipping expensive in the store.

I generally try to plant cost beneficial plants.

Broccoli and cauliflower aren't cost effective. Tomatoes are. peppers are, and red cabbage is because I can it.

And yes to the herbs and spices. I think this year I am going to keep basil all year round.

We don't really eat tomatoes, just grew them last year to try and make ketcup - that didn't work out well. We grow peppers but Mom's the only one that eats them and even then she really doesn't. Think we'll do the Tabasco peppers again to add to the hot sauce she started last year. I've got spearmint and peppermint in containers in the back yard. Trying to get my lavender to come back but its not found a happy spot in the yard yet.

If you do lemon balm I suggest a container that stuff takes over like mint does. It killed my German Thyme before I had a chance to rip it out.

So this is kinda funny.. they added this new feature to the Final Fantasy online game I've been playing.

As part of the game you have a kind of employee called a retainer, that manages your storage and handles your auction sales. Well, now you can pay your retainer to go out and run gathering errands for you. One of my playgroup members sent his out to gather - and it brought back A ROOF. I've heard similar stories about walls, furniture, etc.

I'm kinda hoping if I send mine out it brings back a hottub. But if it brings backs spools of copper wire, I'm calling the popos.

I can barely walk, the back of my thighs and calves are screaming.

But it was probably worth the effort.

Spent most of Saturday bent over the engine compartment of Mrs. Rabbit's Volvo. It had a total misfire of one cylinder so I spent the last weeks gathering parts and some new tools and Saturday was the first good weather day to work on it.

First step to getting to the spark plugs on a Volvo Turbo is to ---- remove the turbo pipes over the engine. Second step is to pull the fancy plastic cover. All the plugs looked normal, I was hoping to find a spark coil that definitely looked bad but didn't find one. So that meant I had to substitute one of the 6 coils at a time (and put all the pipes back in each time) to find the baddie.

Coil 1 ....... nope
Coil 2 ....... nope
Coil 3 ........ nope .....rage factor starting to increase
Coil 4 ........ it feels a little smoother but maybe that's because the engine's getting warmer and close to too hot to work on, or is it that more than one of these are bad (at $60 apiece, I only got one)..... rage factor going up
Coil 5 ........ nope .....battery's almost dead....fear and depression factor going way up .... Mrs Rabbit asking is the car fixed yet?
Coil 6 ........ BINGO.....thank you Murphy.

Had a combo birthday dinner with the family yesterday for Mother Rabbit (Tuesday) and Mrs. Rabbit.

Considering you spent 60 bucks (and a Saturday) to do a repair that likely would've cost hundreds at a shop, I'd say yes - it was worth the effort.

Well, that was just for the coil pack.

Then there was close to $40 for the plugs, $70 for a torque wrench (but I'll always have that now) $25 for a set of torx bits etc. Still, I can see a garage saying "hey one coil is bad you should have them all replaced" . And you need a new wiring harness.......

Considering it was 4 cars ago that I did anything more than replace air filters myself (last big job was replacing the radiator in my first Voyager), yes it was very satisfying that I could still do a job like that myself. My first 3 cars I had to pull the cylinder heads off of them at some time during my ownership to have valves replaced. Of course cars were much easier to work on back the good ol' days.

LOL - and your O2 sensor, and air filter (see how dirty it is?) and a radiator flush & fill.

So I was watching some old Letterman clips.

I came across this one, and I'm convinced if people really listened to this interview and his response, he tipped his hand as to how that phucktard would govern. It's painful to watch and listen, but holee shit, Dave smelled the shitty ooze before he was even elected. I am going to miss him.

Hi all.

Back from a totally successful Woodbadge weekend I. Your Quartermaster absolutely nailed it.

I forgot my phone today, so I was offline the entire day at my desk. Which was OK - I listened to Die Zauberflote and West Side Story.

Garden? HA!

I don't plant until Mother's Day around here. I shall have Cukezilla, tomatoes, and sunflowers, but then after that I haven't decided. I have to put in new bulbs...last fall, the pinheads that run our apartment decided to re-align the walkways and my little flower triangle out front is now under 6 inches of concrete.

Anyway...
