I'm not sufficiently pissed off -- yet.
Author: Raine    Date: 04/17/2014 13:09:14

You know ultimately, we will get exactly what we deserve if we don't work for what we want.

And it will take work. We -- the American people -- are under attack by big, monied interests.

Right now the money is winning. I have a slow simmer bubbling up from under my skin. I am angry and yet I have little desire to put my words and thoughts to cyber paper. You read much of the same that I read.

There is only one thing to do. Inform people to GOTV in 2014. Local politics matter. It's the farm team for what we will see coming down the pike in the next few years. People like Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Chris Cristie and even Susan Martinez didn't didn't show up in a vacuum. The4y were courted or appointed by the Republican party -- with moneyed interests.

Of those examples, every one is facing some sort of scandal because they have made a choice to serve the money rather than the people - every time.

From Daryl Issa to John Boehner to Rick Scott to Scott Walker and Paul Ryan, they serve money, not people. These people didn't rise to power by serving the electorate. They rose to power by deceiving the voters and taking the money from those that do not serve the people. I could list more people, but it's not worth it, not today.

These people who serve the money are responsible for the mess in Nevada, a mess where we have people who really believe that government is the evil thing that makes us all worse off. Rational people know this is not true, and yet - here we are. We have the lunatic fringe slowly taking over this nation. Rationality is considered bad and fringe is now being accepted as normal.

This November may very well be the most important midterm election we will see in our lifetime.

GOTV in 2014. Do whatever you can. Reason must win this November.

Good morning, bloggers!! I hope that everyone is well.

Raine, I am angry. I am not sure where I will be this November, but I will do what I can for local candidates. I think that the Democratic Party needs to decide whether it is on the side of the people or the corporations. Too many Democrats (see Mary Landrieu and several others) seem to be reluctant to support the ACA or other measures that help the public. It is time that we ask people to take a stand -- and judge them on where they stand.

Scoopster, the NYT article worries me. Corporations have far too much power. We are now turning corporations into legal persons whose rights exceed those of individuals.

Close to where I live is another story of political corruption, where a local mayor stands accused of taking money from his campaign AND A FOOD PANTRY to gamble at local casinos. From the Times of Northwest Indiana:

Feds: Lake Station mayor gambled away campaign, food pantry cash
12 hours ago • Elvia Malagon

LAKE STATION | An 11-count federal indictment filed Wednesday alleges Mayor Keith Soderquist and his wife, Deborah Soderquist, improperly used money from the city's food pantry and his re-election campaign at local casinos.

A second federal indictment filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court alleges the couple knew the mayor's stepdaughter, Miranda Brakley, 33, pocketed at least $5,000 from the Lake Station City Court and helped her prevent apprehension.

Wednesday's indictments come after the fall 2013 execution of search warrants at Lake Station City Hall. The city's clerk-treasurer previously said she had received 10 subpoenas asking for records and information about Brakley's employment with the city.

Deborah Soderquist works for the city as the mayor's administrative assistant. She is also the treasurer of her husband's election campaign committee. Brakley previously worked as a city employee.

I'm far less concerned about the Mary Landrieu 's out there. for every one of her in the (D) party there are a hundred in the GOP.

I;m not looking for purity, I am looking for fairness in how the people are represented.

I don't want purity tests either -- I see what it has done to the GOP. I just wish that we had more Democrats willing to act on behalf of the public and willing to criticize corporations that are running roughshod over the rest of us.

BobR, I doubt that the GOP can reform themselves. They seem to double down after each rejection from the voters. Perhaps they should go the way of the Whigs, and the remaining Republicans can join the Libertarian Party. (I am not sure where the evangelical wing of the GOP would go.)

What I don't understand about this is it happened at a water treatment plant.

The thing is. regardless if whether they can or cannot reform themselves, they will exist until we decide as a people to vote them out once and for all.

ignoring them is not an option. Wishing for them to go away is not an option. The thing I take issue with (respectfully) is us worrying about corporate Dems. We will never get rid of this mess when we (on the left) say, our side does it too. Mary Landrieu is the very least of our problems. There will always be outliers like her, or Max Baucus, as another example

It's time to stop this idea that outliers are mainstream. and remember that it is ALL about the Republicans. Using Landrieu (as a representative) is why the left has a real problem. using her as an example is going after low hanging fruit and only gives fodder for the right to say : ""see? both sides do it""

and then a meme is born.

and here we are.

I had not seen this before, but Rachel is an attractive, intelligent woman.

As for the Democrats, I can accept the outliers like Landrieu and Baucus without liking them much. At least they will vote for Democratic leadership in the House and Senate. I just worry that we have so much money in politics that the outliers are going to lean more to the campaign donors than in the past.

Maybe we can get Snowden on that case.. ohhh wait he's too busy being a propaganda mouthpiece for Putin.

I find this quite disturbing. The problem here is that it is hard to tell who is behind this paper. At this point, there are elements in Russia and the Ukraine which are both equally capable of such hateful rhetoric.

Snowden did not serve his cause well with showing up for the press conference. I thought he wanted to keep a low profile. (Maybe he will do so with a marching band accompanying him.)
