Way back less than a year ago, everyone thought this little old man was a silly fool and did not pay attention. It was treated as a tabloid story.
The Emmy-winning Cosby, NBC’s most bankable star at the time, used Scotti to deliver monthly payouts to eight different women in 1989-90 — including Shawn Thompson, whose daughter Autumn Jackson claimed the actor was her dad.

Frank Scotti says he did "a lot of crazy things" for Bill Cosby, including being a coverup for the actor.

Cosby, while denying paternity, paid out more than $100,000 to Thompson over the years after their 1974 affair began. Scotti told The News that he believes Cosby was sleeping with all the women who received money.

They ignored that one of his alleged victims was 15 years old…. her name is Renita Chaney Hill; this story was published back in November of last year.

It was treated with a gasp and people moved on to the next thing. People wanted to ignore this and make this go away.

Ignorance is no more.

Sometimes, heroes need to be accountable. Sometimes we need to call a rapist a rapist.

Sometimes, we accept that a serial rapist has been allowed to go free for decades. These women are victims and people who have been able to corroborate these crimes. Yes, these were crimes that were committed. Every one of the women you see above had a a criminal act put upon their bodies and their souls.

**Trigger Warning**

“I didn't realize that I had been raped. Back then, rape was done in an alleyway with somebody holding a knife to your throat that you didn't know. There was no date rape back then. I just knew that something horrible had happened. But I couldn’t put a name to it. The difference between this and that rape in the dark alley is that his face would be before me every week on TV. People would mention a joke that he said: ‘Wasn't that funny?’ And all the while, my stomach would just be churning.” —Joan Tarshis

“In 1975, it wasn't an issue that was even discussed. Rape was being beaten up in a park. I understood at the time that it was wrong, but I just internalized it and dealt with it and pushed it down, and it resided in a very private place. It affects your trust with other people.” —Marcella Tate

Read these accounts. (After writing this last night I awoke to see that the server where the article is has been flooded and the site is down so for now, hacked. I will use this link from the NY Daily News.)
There was the disoriented and drugged woman who said Bill Cosby put his forearm under her throat after she revealed to hotel staff she was 19 and staying with the superstar.

There was the woman who couldn't form words as the star of “The Cosby Show” leered at her and her unconscious friend with “a very predatory look on his face,” according to a New York magazine article that publishes Monday.

And there was the woman who thought she was one of Cosby’s best friends — until she woke up naked after he plied her with medicine for a “headache.”
(snip)
Many of the women say that speaking out is therapeutic.

“I’m no longer afraid,” said Chelan Lasha, 46, who says Cosby drugged her when she was just 17. “I feel more powerful than him.”

A total of 46 women have come forward to say they were assaulted by Cosby, according to the magazine. Many in the group say they've been contacted by others who have not yet spoken publicly.

“It was sort of like we were yodeling in a canyon and set off an avalanche,” Tarshis said.

Triggering that avalanche — a radical, rapid change in public opinion — took years.

Cosby’s accusers were previously portrayed as gold diggers and not taken seriously.

There are a lot of powerful people that want to make this go away. Bill Cosby raped women on a regular basis and has never been held accountable.

Look at that empty chair. How many people are out there, victims who can't sit there? How many people are there that wanted to sit in the chair and can't because they are no longer with us?

People need to take rape seriously in this country. People need to take people who tell you they are a victim of rape seriously. All the money and power in the world cannot make that pain go away. Everyday there is a person out there who has been raped, probably by someone who is not as famous nor beloved by the masses like Cosby, but still has a right to sit in that chair and make the claim without shame for what was done to them.

Every day there are people who will walk past that chair wishing they had the courage to sit and tell their story. As for Cosby - he's done.

Update: New York MAgazine has been hacked. this is what they have tweeted out:

Mr TriSec. I need your detailed knowledge on the health insurance business and how to make them do my bidding. I want to get a shingles vaccine since my father had them. They are painful as all hell. I want to avoid this. My provider which rhymes with Bumited Mealth) says I have to wait until I am sixty. Should I have my doctor call their doctor and say hey you know about this thing caller heredity, right? So they get the magics words medically necessary to the parsimonious bastards to cover it. Would that be the best way?

Mondo, i would say yes. I actually have first- hand experience: FCHP paid for all my genetic testing after my cancer dx, based on 'medical necessity', likely due to the fact that 3 of my grandparents succumbed to the disease.

I am driving a Nissan Sentra, with the items I wanted, in the color I wanted, after a painless experience at Clay Nissan on the Automile.

Mornin' all.

Re. Huckabee: I had the thought this weekend that if there's one thing i've learned in several decades of activism, it's that these 'new conservatives' will always find a way to reach a new low. And I'm not just talking about the politicians and talking heads either. Friend of mine made the error of browsing through some right-wing fiction. I don't want to link it because it's so unbelievably disgusting (but if you feel like taking the not-gonna-barf challenge, let me know and I will link it).

There are few American cities that need a gentleman like Jon Gnarr.

His political platform included promises of "free towels in all swimming pools, a polar bear for the Reykjavík zoo, all kinds of things for weaklings, Disneyland in the Vatnsmýri area, a 'drug-free' Althing by 2020, sustainable transparency, tollbooths on the border with Seltjarnarnes, to do away with all debt, free access to Hljómskálagarðurinn (orchestral rotunda park)."

Both before and after being elected, Jón announced that he would not enter a coalition government with anyone that had not watched the HBO series The Wire.He is an avid watcher of the series, and stated his favorite character is Omar. Ultimately, his Best Party entered into a coalition with the social-democratic Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin) as its junior partner to govern Reykjavík.

One of his other campaign promises was to build a statue of Bjork dressed as the statue of Liberty. Instead of a torch, she was going to hold a mic.

you and POTUS agree.
Obama said Huckabee's remark was "part of just a general pattern that we've seen that would be considered ridiculous if it weren't so sad."

He then suggested Huckabee may have made the comment in an effort to steal headlines away from real estate mogul Donald Trump, who's dominated the news in recent weeks for his disparaging comments about Mexican immigrants and Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) war record, according to CBS News.

"The Republican Party is shocked and yet that arises out of a culture where those kind of outrageous attacks have become far too commonplace and yet circulated nonstop through the Internet and talk radio and news outlets," Obama added.

And it strange that now some of his material (including what he's done at his recent gigs) shows the truth of what a perv this "family values" guy is. I am waiting to see if someone comes forward where he could be still be prosecuted, since in so many of these cases the statue of limitations has expired.

Great blog, Raine!

Sadly, Bill Cosby is an example of a person whose image has undergone an awful change from a warm, family friendly figure to someone who should be investigated and put on trial.

As for Mike Huckabee, I am embarrassed for my country. I know a woman at my synagogue who is a Holocaust survivor. I have known a few Israelis and meet a few Israeli peace activists. Huckabee shows that the GOP seems to have become a bottomless pit of crassness, whose best service as a party would be to expire. I can only imagine what Dwight Eisenhower - who saw death camps at the end of World War 2 - would say about the modern GOP.

Did we read the same article? It seemed to me that da mayor was doing this because of the significant debt burden that having to host the Olympics would have put on the city. Rather fiscally prudent if you ask me. Given how cities suffer financially in the long-term from hosting the games. But then I'm a rainbow farting unicorn made of sunshine and cotton candy compared to my New England negative-Nelly friends.

I don't know how accurate this link is, but it looks like it's a mixed bag. I remember Atlanta getting flack for the commercialization of it, but they came out ahead. They also had realistic plans for the constructions - the athletes' lodging became much-needed dorms for Ga Tech, the baseball stadium and dome replaced the aging Atlanta Fulton County stadium, and Atlanta got a nice new park.

Welp it looks like it's all over now. The USOC has responded to the mayor's stand by revoking Boston's potential bid.

Comment by TriSec on 07/27/2015 19:30:34
Since the instant the bid was announced, everyone lined up to tell the world why we couldn't do it.

Not one group gave even the slightest smidgen of support. No matter how it was portrayed, this was DOA.

So Boston remains the provincial backwater of self-loathing.

you know, it appears to me that the only people that wanted the Olympics in Boston were real estate development companies and construction contractors.

That Boston was asked to pay for any cost over-runs just reeks of a shakedown. I really think the IOC and the American OC need to get this shit right or no country is EVER going to want to hold the Olympics.

Maybe they can learn from the FISA scandal.
