Once again, pResident tRump is meeting with our allies in NATO, and seemingly trying his best to piss them off. Putin couldn't have dreamed how well this is working out for Russia, as tRump works to create discord in this important bloc against our cold war foe.

At a breakfast yesterday, he lit into Germany for buying oil from Russia.
The Republican president, in Brussels for the NATO summit, took a swipe at Germany for supporting a new pipeline for Russian gas, saying at a pre-summit meeting: “We’re supposed to be guarding against Russia and Germany goes out and pays billions and billions of dollars a year to Russia.”

He also said that Germany was "captive" to Russia, which begs the question: Aren't we - by the same token - captive to Canada?

tRump also complained that fellow NATO members aren't paying their obligations of 2% of GDP, and wanted them to pay closer to 4%. However, they aren't supposed to be paying that much until 2024. Small detail the Dumbass-in-Chief overlooked.

Today, Macron apparently upset tRump by saying everything had gone smoothly the day before. Really?... tRump is upset about that?
NATO officials said Trump was furious over media coverage suggesting that the first day of the summit had proceeded calmly, and that he had demanded to hold a press conference immediately after the morning meeting.

At that press conference, tRump didn't confirm his earlier threats to leave NATO
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to break with NATO and conduct American security unilaterally — if allies do not immediately meet higher military spending targets, NATO officials and diplomats said.

[...]

Later at a press conference, Trump did not respond to a question about whether he had threatened to pull the U.S. out of NATO. Instead, he answered another part of the question, which asked if he could pull out without congressional approval. He said: “I think I can.”

It was at that press conference where things took a turn for the weird:
One reporter asked the president if he would perhaps change his mind about the demand for immediate spending hikes once he boarded his plane and had time to reflect, but Trump insisted he would not.

“Oh, that’s other people that do that,” Trump said. “I’m very consistent. I’m a very stable genius.”

So he won't be tweeting later that he's threatening to leave NATO? r-i-i-g-h-t....

Mornin' all!

From the AP's rolling updated story about the NATO meeting..
1:20 p.m.

French President Emmanuel Macron has denied President Donald Trump’s claim that NATO allies have agreed to boost defense spending beyond 2 percent of gross domestic product.

Macron said: There is a communique that was published yesterday. It’s very detailed.”

He added: “It confirms the goal of 2 percent by 2024. That’s all.”

found this in the comments section:

So Donald Trump is continuing his takeover of the “independent” judiciary. Rod Rosenstein’s meek assent with the tyrannical Trump signals the coming end of his authority—in much the same vein that the president has neutered his AG, Jefferson Davis Beauregard Sessions III.

Deputy Rosenstein, to be fair, is under orders to make documents available for the vetting of Judge Kavanaugh, but this a task historically handled by DOJ staffers, not serving-line prosecutors. By handcuffing them in this obviously politically-motivated way, the “law and order” president lessens the effectiveness of law enforcement and crime prevention. Important investigations must now be put in hold in the service of a president to whom precedent and custom are anathema.

Surely the White House Counsel’s staff—or that of the Republican National Committee—could undertake this baldly partisan, political task without the consequent lessening of the mission of the DOJ—unless I am very wrong in my surmise that a prosecutor’s job description entails copying and collating Judge Kavanaugh’s many opinions and law review articles for nothing less than the rapid presentation of his opinions for an impatient president and GOP-heavy Senate.

Once upon a time, an attorney general and an assistant attorney general stood up to a president who was determined to politicize the DOJ to protect him from himself. Would that Deputy AG Rosenstein possessed a tenth of the fortitude of Elliott Richardson and William Ruckelshaus.

Probably has a lot to do with Kennedy pulling a Blagojevich (sp) with his SCOTUS seat, as well as Kennedy's son & his exposure at Alfa Bank to stuff related to the Russia investigation.

Good morning, bloggers!!

Scoopster, you do have the right spelling of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's name.

I suspect that we will see a tumultuous set of hearings on Kavanaugh.

Hello, everyone!

I did not get the middle school job in Gary. They are moving on to other candidates.

However, I got a call from a middle school in Lynn, Massachusetts this morning about setting up an interview. I may need to ask my Boston area friends for help in finding a place to stay for a while.

Could be. There are also accusations that Kavanagh perjured himself during his previous hearings for the other court seat that took him three years to be confirmed on. He has a paper trail that makes him especially odious. I think bribing Kennedy to step down and the emoluments clause violations are enough to warrant Trump's impeachment, but the Russian investigation may show a larger strain of criminal behavior.

Okay goddamnit, I'm FUCKING DONE with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez if she continues to pretend that a problem with NY state election laws is a deliberate attempt by Joe Crowley & the Democratic Party to undermine her campaign.

I WILL NOT put up with any more of this bullshit from Bernie's goons anymore, whether they label themselves as Democrats or not.

I saw that and it is NOT cool -- she should have staff that should have informed her about the NYS law.
