4 Less Years
Author: Raine    Date: 08/10/2020 12:57:06

Every now and then I think about what might have been. Actually, I think about it all the time. 'It' being a legitimately elected woman sitting in the Oval Office. A Facebook memory popped into my feed from years ago and it got me thinking about what was happening on this day four years ago. We were in the middle of a campaign and an awful lot of people didn't think the other it would happen, but it did.

Four years ago today.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump ignited a controversy on Tuesday by telling supporters that if Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is elected, only "Second Amendment people" will be able to prevent her from appointing a pro-gun-control judge to break the tie on the Supreme Court. Democrats accused Trump of suggesting that someone should assassinate Clinton. A Trump campaign spokesman said he was not calling for violence, but saying instead that the "amazing spirit" and unity of Second Amendment advocates give them great political power.

It's dejavu all over again, as the occupant of the White house is using the same playbook with Joe Biden.
Donald Trump said Tuesday that he wants to debate Hillary Clinton "very badly," but only if the rules and moderators are "fair." The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has scheduled three presidential debates in September and October, and one vice-presidential matchup. Trump said he would have to "see the conditions" before fully committing. Clinton campaign Chairman John Podesta said Trump's apparent wavering was either a sign he was "trying to avoid debates, or merely toying with the press to create more drama."

Since we are now in the middle of a soul-crushing pandemic, this one is especially egregious:
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called on Republican leaders in Congress to approve emergency spending to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne Zika virus. Clinton made the remarks after touring a health clinic in Miami, where a recent Zika outbreak prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a travel advisory urging pregnant women to stay away from the affected neighborhood, Wynwood. A spokesman for Clinton's Republican rival, Donald Trump, accused her of "playing politics" with the Zika crisis.

That facebook memory I mentioned above? Lemme tell you it hurt to read it because things have gotten so much worse in the past four years.
A request to The Untied States of America:

Please, can we stop acting like the scorn some have for "political correctness" is anything other than looking for an excuse to not be nice to each other?

Here is the reality as I see it. Being politically correct used to mean 'stop talking about other people in a disparaging way'. Nowadays I see a lot of people scorning the idea of political correctness as some sort of weakness.

Guess what?

It's politically correct to not call a person a r*tard.
It's politically correct to not call a person a f*g.
It's politically correct to not call a person a H*mo.
It's politically correct to not call a person a femin*zi.
It's politically correct to not call a person a b*tch
It's politically correct to not call a person a p*ssy.
It's politically correct to not call a person a c*nt.
It's politically correct to not call a person a n*gger.
It's politically correct to not call a person a w*tback.
It's politically correct to not call a person a sp*ck.
It's politically correct to not call a person a p*lack.
It's politically correct to not call a person a k*ke.
It's politically correct to not call a person a m*ck.
It's politically correct to not call a person a w*p.

Being politically incorrect because you don't want to be politically correct suggests to me that you don't want to be a human being who cares about the feelings of others.

Add your own Ideas of what being politically correct is not.

I have another idea-- let's not elect an immoral racist subhuman person to occupy the White House ever again.

Let's get the week rolling.

and
Raine

Good morning.

And this happened:

Even before Trump made his comments, a Republican lawmaker came out against Trump. This is Maine Senator Susan Collins speaking to CNN’s Jamie Gangel on Tuesday.

Sen. Susan Collins: “Donald Trump, in my judgment, would make a perilous world even more dangerous. I worry that his tendency to lash out and his ill-informed comments would cause dangerous events to escalate and possibly spin out of control at a time when our world is beset with conflicts.”

That was pretty much my reaction as well.

Morning, comrades.

TriSec has struck his Facebook tent. I was within 5 seconds of pushing the "delete account" button this morning, but hesitated at the last second. I deactivated it and logged out instead, deleting the app from all of my devices.

Why?

Another childhood friend has admitted to mainlining GOP Kool-aid. I have known him since he was 11 years old.

To quote Prince:

You're gonna have to fight your own damn war; 'cause we don't wanna fight no more.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

There was massive looting in downtown Chicago overnight. I am disappointed to see this.
As much as I love Chicago, there are problems. Economic inequality and lack of jobs has lead to many problems through the years. Perhaps we can see a serious conversation on addressing underlying problems rather than responding to each new crisis. 2 shot, more than 100 people arrested, 13 officers injured amid widespread downtown looting

Good morning. Looks like I will have to post my updates on more than Facebook as people keep jumping ship. I guess if I weren't confined because of my disability I might quit too although I don't have as many means of keeping touch with people.

It seems like our mutual friend Benjy keeps getting dinged on Facebook and I have a Facebook friend who moved to Italy who also keeps getting dinged for criticizing Trump and Trump supporters.

I am thinking of looking elsewhere and keeping Facebook just to communicate with people fair away such as Anthony in Sweden and my cousins in Scotland.
