Old Man Rant
Author: BobR    Date: 09/09/2020 12:57:07

When you think of old white man (in a political sense), you'd be safe in assuming he would be someone who's conservative and possibly racist. That seems to be the case with a lot of tRump supporters.

This would be especially true of someone who grew up in Indiana, lived in small town NY for a few decades, and now lives in suburban GA.

My father, however, breaks the stereotype. He is somewhat "reserved" in social situations. He very smart, and was an electrical engineer with a Masters degree. He belonged to the UUC when growing up.

Mention tRump, and just shakes his head and lets out a low disgusted laugh.

I knew my mother was a Republican when I was a small kid. She'd have fundraisers for the party in my small town. She probably "liked Ike" - I know she didn't like Nixon. I never talked politics with her. She probably would've hated tRump.

It wasn't until much later in life that I found out my dad was a lifelong Democrat. Once they got to that age where going out and waiting in line to vote was a chore, they both stopped doing so because they felt like their votes would cancel each other out. My mother hated Obama; my dad supported Clinton in the 2008 election primaries.

Despite all this, I was still greatly surprise to find out that my 92 year old father wrote a political manifesto a couple months back. I was even more surprised when I read it. I've scanned it so you can read it too (please excuse the typos he made)

My father's Political Manifesto

Holy cow! Welcome to resistance, Dad.

This is my first time reading this and Bob's description of Dad is spot on.

And I don't know what surprised me more -- what he is calling for or the end.

I did. Nice to see others who don't buy the bullshit Trump is peddling.
