Pausing for the day.
Author: Raine    Date: 11/26/2020 14:00:38

This year has been pretty tough, I think we can all agree. As expected, this Thanksgiving is just another day to remind us of the struggles we've all experienced since February/March.

March. We were just getting over the 2019 holidays and ready to embrace spring and the rebirth of nature. It all was taken away. Yes, it's been a really hard year.

Bob and usually do not travel on Thanksgiving. The traffic is just too much, so this year technically is a normal year for us. That said, (and I know I'm not alone in this) knowing that I can't travel makes me want to. I miss my family and friends in New York.

So this year I am thankful that I can miss them because they and I are alive. We're having a potluck dinner today with neighbors who were wonderful when we moved here in 2018 but have become true friends by the sheer force of this pandemic. I'm grateful for that.

Today is a good day to pause and breathe in all that is good, even while everything is hard. Today I crave some normalcy and tradition in a time where there are none. Some of us will be starting new ones by trying to navigate this abnormal normality of the year 2020.

With that said, here is a tradition that no one can take away. It's that place where you can get anything you want. Walk right in, it's around the back, just a half a mile from the railroad track.

Thank you for being my friend. I look forward to giving you all big hugs in the future.

Stay safe out there.

&

Raine

Picked-up pieces from around the Trisec compound:

Thankful? Am I?

Four walls and a roof above - in some ways, it's now a prison.

Food on the table. Food for my pets. Plenty in the pantry. I've been in a rut for months. Julia Child, again??

Not-so-far-flung children back home for winter break. Two negative in 48 hours - and he was back to work at the nursing home today.

Friends online? We've all hunkered down - not much to say for weeks, has there been?

January 20th is coming. We can hope for a peaceful transfer of power, but if it takes tanks, I'm all for it. The current administration must be crushed for all time. Metaphorically preferred, but I'll take literally.

I wake up every morning, go to work. Family is still here, just a phone call away. I still do all the things that I have always done, just new ways of doing them now.

We wait and hope, and watch the sun rise and set and still marvel at the beauty that can be found if you take the time to look.

Happy Thanksgiving out there. And God bless us, every one.
