If the President does it, it's legal.
Author: Raine    Date: 12/22/2008 13:32:48

Say what?
All of President Bush's actions during his years as a wartime leader were done with full legal authority, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Fox News Sunday.

Asked by Chris Wallace if it's legal when the president makes a decision to help the country when it's fighting a war, Cheney said, "As a general proposition, I'd say yes."
Interesting that we found this to be almost the same when Richard Nixon claimed: “when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal.” We never truly got the chance to find out because he was pardoned without out ever being charged with a crime. Dick worked in that White House as well... strange coincidence.

The problem with this notion is not just the hubris, it is the notion that as long as a country is in a perpetual state of war, the Office of President of the United States is above the rule of law, and it is that very idea that Dick Cheney is proposing that is inherently UNconstitutional. The US of America was never meant to exist in a perpetual state of war in order to give the office of President unlimited power. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the President the power to suspend the rule of law. You see, that was kinda the idea of the United States of America... rule of law, and the flaven... for the people by the people blah blah, blah...

Article Two of the United States Constitution, Section 4 states that "The President, Vice President, and all other civil Officers of the United States shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors." The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeaching, while the United States Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments. The removal of impeached officials is automatic upon conviction in the Senate.[Source],

Not only is Tricky Dick II trying to rewrite history, he is explicitly redefining the Constitution. Not to split hairs here, but the United States is not at war. We are involved in a Military Action. Article 1, Section 8 gives congress the power to declare war. No such thing ever happened... so even if Tricky Dick V.2 was correct about the President being above the law during times of war... he would be WRONG again. I shouldn't be shocked, HE doesn't even know to what branch of the Government he is a part of. Funny that he would know what is legal and what isn't... (is Dick a constitutional lawyer like our President Elect?)

I know we have a few weeks left of these lying, thieving bastards, but it is things like this that just make my blood boil. It's insulting and traitorous in my opinion to treat the American people with such disdain that you would lie right to our faces.

I can handle controversy, I can handle disagreements, but the abject disdain for our Constitution that Dick Cheney has is - in my opinion - a high crime.

I take solace that we have an incoming administration that will actually respect the Constitution, and will try to do the right thing... I take little comfort (altho some smugness) in reminding people that thanks to *ush and Cheney and the people who enabled these GWOT policies to happen, Barack Obama has far more power than any other president in the history of our country. I hope all the people who rah-rahed *ush and Dick and the War on Terrah™ realize that they brought this on. If they thought NSA spying on Americans was GREAT for the past 8 years, they should be ready to LOVE it for the next 8 right?

Somehow I doubt it. Traitors rarely use logic, they just blindly follow the leader without thinking. *ush did for 8 years with Dick, as did 19% of America.

:peace: and
Raine

Okay, and what evidence do these idiots have? Only bandwidth usage and IP addresses. They have no idea what is being transmitted. They have no idea what the files are. They don't even have any idea if it's legitimately free, open sourced music being downloaded. They just want their cut. This action is total BS by greedy music execs.

OK Kids, time for Guess the Quote!

Reader's Digest just published in their January issue a "memo to the president" where various political and business figures tell PE Obama what they think he should do.

Get ready to be floored.

A top priority will be to create a White House where forceful argument can take place. Plain speaking, straight talk, and dissent must be encouraged, with participants thoroughly prepared, ideas offered with deference for opposing views, and colleagues not subjected to self-serving leaks. The power of the Oval Office can cower critics and silence disagreement; the chief executive must labor hard to make it a place of vigorous debate.

$1.6b for failed bank execs

Banks that have their hands out in Washington this year were handing out multimillion-dollar rewards to their executives last year.

The 116 banks that so far have received taxpayer dollars to boost them through the economic crisis gave their top tier of executives nearly $1.6 billion in salaries, bonuses and other benefits in 2007, an Associated Press analysis found.

That amount, spread among the 600 highest paid bank executives, would cover the bailout money given to 53 of the banks that have shared the $188 billion that Washington has doled out in rescue packages so far.

Some banks trimmed their executive compensation in the face of faltering performance that foreshadowed the current economic crisis, but they still granted multimillion-dollar packages. Benefits included cash bonuses, stock options, personal use of company jets and chauffeurs, home security, country club memberships and professional money management, the AP review of federal securities documents found.

Such bonuses amount to a bribe for executives "to get them to do the jobs for which they are well paid in the first place," said Rep. Barney Frank, the Massachusetts Democrat who chairs the House Financial Services committee.

"Most of us sign on to do jobs, and we do them best we can," said Frank. "We're told that some of the most highly paid people in executive positions are different. They need extra money to be motivated!"

The AP review of annual reports that the banks file with the Securities and Exchange Commission found that the average paid to each of the banks' top executives was $2.6 million in salary, bonuses and benefits.

A little story:
Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff legged and walking slowly.

One of the students said to his friend, 'I'm sure the poor old man has Petry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that'

The other student said, 'No, I don't think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his are legs apart just as we learned in class.'

Since they couldn't agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him and one of the students said to him, 'We're medical students and couldn't help but notice the way you walk, but we couldn't agree on the syndrome you might have. Could you tell us what it is?'

The old man said, 'I'll tell you, but first you must tell me what you two fine medical students think.'

One of the students said, 'I think it's Petry Syndrome.' The old man said, 'You thought... but you are wrong.'

Then the other student said, 'I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome.' The old man said, 'You thought...... but you are also wrong.'

So they asked him, 'Well, old timer, what do you have?'

The old man said, 'I thought it was GAS.......... but I was wrong.'

Other Thoughts: When I did tech support for a certain publisher of a certain flight simulator, nearly everyone I spoke with swore by Saitek products for the best bang/buck. I always thought flight sim fans were a little crazy... I would recommend something a bit sturdier.

I'd vouch for that; I've flown with a lot of Saitek stuff. It's plenty sturdy, what the hell were you doing with your keyboard there?
