Milley described “a stomach-churning†feeling as he listened to Trump’s untrue complaints of election fraud, drawing a comparison to the 1933 attack on Germany’s parliament building that Hitler used as a pretext to establish a Nazi dictatorship.
“This is a Reichstag moment,†Milley told aides, according to the book. “The gospel of the Führer.â€

“You are one of the few guys who are standing between us and some really bad stuff,†the friend told Milley, according to an account relayed to his aides. Milley was shaken, Leonnig and Rucker write, and he called former national security adviser H.R. McMaster to ask whether a coup was actually imminent.
“What the f--- am I dealing with?†Milley asked him.
"I've read Mao Zedong. I've read Karl Marx. I've read Lenin. That doesn't make me a communist. So what is wrong with understanding — having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend?" Milley said.
He continued brusquely: "And I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, noncommissioned officers of being, quote, 'woke' or something else, because we're studying some theories that are out there."
Ahead of a November pro-Trump "Million MAGA March" to protest the election results, Milley told aides he feared it "could be the modern American equivalent of 'brownshirts in the streets,'" referring to the pro-Nazi militia that fueled Hitler's rise to power.

"What they are trying to do here is overturn the government," said the friend, who is not named, according to the authors. "This is all real, man. You are one of the few guys who are standing between us and some really bad stuff."
There is a story, often told, that upon exiting the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin was approached by a group of citizens asking what sort of government the delegates had created. His answer was: "A republic if you can keep it." The brevity of that response should not cause us to under-value its essential meaning: democratic republics are not merely founded upon the consent of the people, they are also absolutely dependent upon the active and informed involvement of the people for their continued good health.

Mornin' all...
My head is all screwed up today. Why you ask? Because my girlfriend lied to me about something super important.
She said she wasn't getting vaccinated because "children should get it before older people do". Now she's saying "my body my choice".
I wanted to make plans to go places with her. I wanted her to meet my family, finally. That 100% will never happen now - not only because I don't want her to get sick I don't want my braindead anti-vax brother and his braindead anti-vax family to get sick either.

So much news this morning! Almost like being in front of Stephanie's ball launcher!
Kevin McCarthy is meeting with Trump today at Bedminster, per the former president.

The clip just played on @CNNnewsroom in which Gen. Milley talked last November 11 about not having taken an oath to any individual was an implicit reference to Hitler's having made the Reichswehr swear an oath to him personally in 1934, after President Hindenburg's death.

I'm sorry Scoop. Got an aunt that doesn't seem to want to get vaxxed and she started back at work (at a community college) this week. I'm scared for her and for anyone she comes in contact with, including her 3 year old great-grandson.

The really fucked up thing is she dosen't even seem to care about how I would react if I brought that damn virus in and got her sick or worse. She only cares about the fact that I'm reacting in advance and she sees me as being overbearing for it.
