Yesterday, news broke that Speaker Pelosi would block 2 of the 5 republicans chosen by the Minority leader to serve on the January 6 select commission. From her statement:
“Monday evening, the Minority Leader recommended 5 Members to serve on the Select Committee. I have spoken with him this morning about the objections raised about Representatives Jim Banks and Jim Jordan and the impact their appointments may have on the integrity of the investigation. I also informed him that I was prepared to appoint Representatives Rodney Davis, Kelly Armstrong and Troy Nehls, and requested that he recommend two other Members.

“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee.

“The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.”
Boldface mine. She spoke to the GQP leader. He knew this was going to happen. She made no secret of the actions she was going to take. On Monday I wrote of the overall cynicism of the conservative movement. Yesterday was just another facet of it.

Naturally, for that party, they would take the next step. Now that they fully embrace 'The Big Lie' -- acting in bad faith is part of its genetic makeup. It's baked in the cake. It's who they are, and all they represent. He released a statement just before he went on TV.
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party’s picks for the Select Committee on January 6. This represents an egregious abuse of power and will irreparably damage this institution. Denying the voices of members who have served in the military and law enforcement, as well as leaders of standing committees, has made it undeniable that this panel has lost all legitimacy and credibility and shows the Speaker is more interested in playing politics than seeking the truth.

“Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.”
He really embellished when he was in front of the camera. It did not go well.
McCarthy is basically taking his own ball and going home. His lies are so baked in the cake that he can't see that the Majority in congress has the actual game ball. So while the press claims that the Speaker of the House is being too partisan, know this: the most partisan event that ever occurred in the history of our nation is ongoing. The most violent event of it so far was January 6, 2021.

Kevin McCarthy is a member of the ongoing insurgency of domestic terrorism. He, like all others involved, has to act in bad faith. It's baked in the cake. Let them eat it.

Good news - I think City of Manassas and Prince William county have FINALLY hit 50% in vaccinations. Manassas Park, however, is only around 48%. So I still don't trust a damn person at the grocery store without a mask.

I'm at the point where I'm back to wearing a mask anywhere that isn't the office or the house.

With Jess refusing to get vax'd (I found out the real reason why btw) it's what I have to do to protect her. And honestly myself too since even vax'd you can catch it. I have a partly compromised immune system due to the radiation and if I get sick I could still end up hospitalized.

We're doing pretty much the same - Mom turns 75 next week, we've both been fully vaxxed and we're doing everything we can to keep her safe. Can't risk her getting any kind of sick with this, even a breakthrough case.

Its so incredibly frustrating - I would love to not have to wear a mask anymore but can't.

So, I have to ask all of you here.. why do you think there's been a major about-face specifically by Republican lawmakers and talking heads over the past few days about lobbying the public to get vaccinated?

Do you think there's legal liability there? Like, if a public official or celebrity says something that's false about the vaccines, and people get sick and die from their own lie-fueled ignorance, can their families sue them in federal civil court?

I think they're scared its hitting red states hard cause they down played getting vaxxed and its taking out their own voters.

and I suspect the internal polling is REALLY bad.

I still think it's not enough and too late.

And as long as Faux keeps letting the little fascist keep doing what he does, it will never be enough.

Greetings, comrades.

Tourism is booming in Massachusetts right now, but we too have a creeping increase in our positivity rate. The story in the Globe yesterday about the cluster in Provincetown noted that it was mostly unvaccinated out-of-staters causing the spike.

We're using a new digital scanner for our tickets on board the vehicles - I'm tempted to start waving it over a typical vaccination site and telling people that I'm checking for the RFID chip that indicates their vaccination status.

But that probably wouldn't go over too well.

I do wonder if McConnell and Hannity are telling people to get vaxxed now because they know in the current situation that it's now mostly killing their voters possibly to the point where even all their rigging and fixing elections still won't allow them to win.

Well...I have been back driving tours for 20 days today.

I've already made more tip money in those 20 days than I did ALL LAST YEAR.

And my blood pressure has dropped ten points on top of that.

Scary motorcycle practice this afternoon.

I am going to intentionally "drop" my bike on the lawn and practice picking it up. Then I'm off to ride.
