The Shoes

There are some mornings when the ongoing tennis ball machine of news is overwhelming. There is however one moment from over the weekend that I keep coming back to.

She's 82 and in high heels. BTW.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made an unannounced visit to Kyiv along with Democratic lawmakers and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In a video posted by Zelensky on Sunday, Pelosi could be seen walking with the Ukrainian leader on the streets with lawmakers, including Reps. Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), Jim McGovern (Mass.), Gregory W. Meeks (N.Y.) and Jason Crow (Colo.). “We are visiting you to say thank you for your fight for freedom. … Your fight is a fight for everyone,” Pelosi told Zelensky. “So our commitment is to be there for you until the fight is done.”

The trip had not been publicized before Zelensky shared visuals on Sunday, with a caption praising the United States for being a leader in support of Ukraine. “Thank you for helping to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state!” he wrote on Twitter.

The visit came as civilian evacuations from a Mariupol steel plant that has been the last base for Ukrainian fighters in the besieged port city were expected to continue Sunday, after a group of about 20 women and children were allowed to leave under a cease-fire that began Saturday. Ukrainian officials think up to 1,000 people have taken shelter at the complex, which has been pummeled by Russian strikes in the Kremlin’s bid to secure Mariupol, an industrial center on the Sea of Azov that is seen as a strategic prize for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This woman is second in line to the Office of the President of the United States. For her and her fellow colleagues going to a war zone is almost beyond words. This is leadership. This is bravery. This is what patriots do for our friends in need. We are lucky to have her.

Slava Ukraine. Thank you Madam Speaker.

&
Raine

We see a study in contrasts in this story from over the weekend.

I think that Speaker Pelosi showed great courage to go into a war zone. I have to ask where I see such courage from Kevin McCarthy, who seems to view the truth as mutable, and his allies? So far, such courage has not surface and I doubt that it will.

Mornin' all..

My neck & shoulder are still hurtin' pretty damn bad.. it's been messed up since last Thursday when I fell asleep in an awkward position. The CBD stuff is helping but even that can't block the occasional shot of acute pain when I move a certain way.

Greetings, comrades!

TriSec is fully aware of what today is. (Monday). I'm off to do some Masonic Degree work this evening, and an early morning tomorrow for Trolley Dispatch.

The true test is will I remember to post something later this evening?

Oh, good call. I tried to make a Filipino flag in my flowerbed last year. Ukraine colours will be much easier.
