Breathe Easier? Yes We Will.
Author: Raine    Date: 04/18/2009 12:57:19

Yesterday we attended Day one of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. It made me feel like the beginning of a new season. Granted, for many, spring has been here for a while, but this is the festival for me that ushers in the warm weather. This weekend we also have the Sweetwater 420 Festival at another nearby park. For those that don't know, Sweetwater is a local Brewery and 420 is their signature beer.

The 420 Fest is interesting in that it is a celebration of Earth day, helping to enlighten people to how we can live more green and the steps we can take to save our Earth. It's is great for Children and families and celebrates a great cause: The Earth. We all know Earth Day, it has been a global celebration for years. This year we have something really big to celebrate. That is: This year we have an EPA that actually is working to protect the environment.
"In both magnitude and probability, climate change is an enormous problem," concluded EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson in a 130-page report. She found that projected levels of greenhouse gases "endanger the public health and welfare of current and future generations."
This clears the way for the government to regulate greenhouse gasses. It also clears the way for the Energy Department to assist states in mandating auto efficiency. This has been something we saw little to no help from in the previous administration. Gone are the days of Clear Skies Initiative as it was once known.

With this decision (and the ensuing regulations), not only can we see CO2 emmisions drop from companies thru a proposed cap and trade program for companies and corporations, but with cleaner air, it is very likely the health risks posed to humans will decrease. In other words: healthier people. Imagine a world where the number of asthma cases is decreasing instead of increasing.
But the EPA also says global warming will have broader health effects on the population. The agency found in July that global warming could increase rates of heat stroke, infectious diseases, drownings due to higher water levels, more frequent and intense wildfires, and water-quality problems.

"In both magnitude and probability, climate change is an enormous problem. The greenhouse gases that are responsible for it endanger public health and welfare within the meaning of the Clean Air Act," the EPA says.
The general welfare of Human beings have been at risk. With this report, we can all work on making this a better world. Not just with clean energy solutions, but with body and mind! I think it will happen. The president would like for Congress to take these steps, but if they don't, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., the chairwoman of the Environment and Public Works Committee. said:
"If Congress does not act to pass legislation, then I will call on EPA to take all steps authorized by law to protect our families,"

Thru all the claptrap of the week, on this Saturday take a deep breath and know that you and I will be able to breathe easier in the future!

:peace: and
Raine

Interesting how different cities have their spring rituals....

For Boston, we've got "Truck Day" in February, harbinger of the Red Sox season.

But it's this weekend that is the real spring rite of spring in my fair city. Today is Patriot's Day, which commemorates the attacks on Lexington and Concord by the British Regulars. There has already been the re-enactment, as it's happened every year since 1975, around sunrise.

Monday we have the Boston Marathon and the only morning start in the Major Leagues to celebrate the 'official' state holiday.

I have exacted many promises over the years from the assembled regarding the terms Patriot's Day and Minutemen. Today is the proper time and place to use both terms.

(and thanks to Raine for picking up today's blog. I'm headed to camp for a few hours today, but later than I thought.)

Good day everyone. Just a quick hit and run since I only have a little bit of free time before I have to head off to the salt mine for a night of Rangers post-game, Red Bulls Soccer and then our Hockey Night show afterwards. And then tomorrow, I have Devils playoff action so it's another busy weekend.

And the puck drop instead of being at 8 after didn't occur until 22 after when they usually hit at 8 after. Looks like I will be cutting down that replay.

Good day all.

Looks like this weekend is going to be computer "repair" weekend. 4 of my PCs are not up to snuff so I thought I'd just hole myself up and try to tackle 'em at once.

1. Very old 350MHz PC, probably good for Linux only or something where I need to run a DOS app (yeah, I do). Failing hard drive - now in freezer.

2. Laptop - power connector is bad, it gets hot after a while. After removing all the screws on the bottom I realized I'd NEVER get this thing back together. I may just take a Dremel tool to the case and hack away the corner where the power connector is. I don't care what it looks like.

3. Tablet PC. What I use now for most surfing. REALLY SLOW. Since it's 6 years old it could probably stand a fresh XP install. In Compaq's infinite wisdom, they may give you the restore CD's but unless you have the special Compaq/HP USB CD drive, you are SOL. It won't boot to a standard CD/DVD drive because the drivers aren't there. Bleep Compaq. Guess I'll have to just deal with it.

4. The PC I use to do all my music and video editing. Got a virus yesterday (kicks myself).

So the server PC is open and I'm going to put in the suspect drives and try to fix them.

By the way - great blog post this morning dear. I look forward to Federal regulatory agencies that actually do their job.

Bleh

I was able to recover the old emails I had on the failed drive (containing a lot of software license numbers). Which is a good thing, because......

The Windows installation on the "do all the media stuff" PC is trashed.

Probably just as well, that software is old. All I REALLY care about is that I can download stuff to my media player, and I can reinstall Goldwave. At least all the data is still there. Someday I'll learn to back up stuff, but I've never been able to reliably backup anything on a CD or DVD.
