Priming the Pump

Today is yet another post-primary day, so - without further ado - let's get into the results...

First - California:
Two of the most closely watched races are in California, where primaries for governor and L.A. mayor were left too close to call as counting continued.

Republican Steve Hilton, a television commentator, and Democrat Xavier Becerra, a former Biden Cabinet secretary, took the early lead in what was a crowded field of more than 60 candidates vying to replace Gavin Newsom, who has served the maximum number of terms as governor.

[...]

Many Californians vote by mail, so it will be many days before we know the final result.

The night’s other high-profile race was in Los Angeles, where Mayor Karen Bass advanced to the runoff in the face of tough challenges from Republican former reality star Spencer Pratt and progressive Democrat Nithya Raman, but no candidate seemed set for an outright majority.

Next is Iowa:
In Iowa, self-described "common-sense prairie populist” Josh Turek won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate. The Hawkeye State hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since 2008, but polls suggest Turek might have a chance of defeating Republican nominee Rep. Ashley Hinson, who won her party's nomination for the open seat and was endorsed by President Trump.

Zach Lahn won the GOP nomination for Iowa governor after defeating four Republicans, including Rep. Randy Feenstra, who was endorsed by Trump.

New Jersey:
Democrat Rebecca Bennett emerged from a highly competitive primary to take on Republican Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. in the November general election. Kean, who ran unopposed, was already seen as vulnerable before he began an extended absence due to an unspecified health issue that has kept him from appearing on Capitol Hill for more than two months.

New Mexico:
...incumbent Democratic Sen. Ben Ray Luján, who entered the race as a clear frontrunner, looked set for a decisive victory as he pursues reelection. He’ll face off against the GOP’s nominee, Larry Marker.

Former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland won the Democratic nomination for New Mexico governor. She becomes the frontrunner and could become the first Native American to hold that position in any U.S. state.

It's high seasons for primaries, so for a bonus click, here's the remaining schedule.
