Well, who should we endorse, and do we want to pick from both sides of the aisle like a good non-partisan website should?

Dems: Richardson : girds for strong responses :

Repubs: erm? Do any of them have any redeeming qualities? I'll have to admit that single policies of one or two of them may make some small bit of sense, but I find the candidates generally unpalatable...

I like Kucinich a lot, but more and more I also find common ground with Edwards and Dodd. I really really have my fingers crossed for Edwards to take Iowa - by a huge margin! Wet Dream!!

The problem with this administration is that its secrecy and duplicity lends credence to any possibility of a conspiracy behind any events. This may be an innocent electrical firel, but no one should take anything said or done by this administration at face value.

Good morning everyone.

Good to see that people recognize Edwards. Even though on ideological grounds, Kucinich is my choice. Edwards is the only top tier candidate who is acting like a true Democrat. And kudos to Dodd for stopping the FISA bill. I was going to vote for Kucinich in the primary, but I may seriously switch to Edwards if he is in contention to make sure that Hillary doesn't get it (although she will probably take NY state).

From CNN: A spokesman for the D.C.Fire Department said the fire started in an electrical closet or telephone bank area on the third floor.

That building is over 100 years old and it's been upgraded since 9/11. According to NOvaM - the fire fighters had problems breaking out bomb-proof windows to get air inside so it was a difficult fire to knock down.

Hilary....feh. That's maintaining the status quo. I don't have any real issues with Obama, but he just doesn't strike me as a 'meaty' candidate, if you catch my meaning.

Check out Deval Patrick of this Commonwealth, who ran on a pithy saying (Together, we can!) without much substance. There hasn't been much motion in the year he's been in office...but we would have elected anyone with a "D" after their name because it was a slap in the face for ol' Mitt....

well here is the thing... this is what primaries are for. I am hell bent on making sure that hillary does NOT get the nomination... The one thing that truly seems to be happening is that because of the moving up of the primaries, it seems as tho the importance of Iowa and NH are waning... that may very well make super tuesday super huge.

The thing I hate (as I have posted on the MB ) is that I do NOT like the fact that a candidate should be picked so soon. What I really REALLY want? I want the candidate to truly be picked at the convention, just like old times...

Jeepers... this is a very interesting election year.

Comment by Raine on 12/19/2007 18:50:44
you know the one thing that the media is forgetting, in the end, we will support our party. That is why we want fair and clean primaries.

The people really want to be able to choose for thier party who they want as the nominee... Sometimes it seems like that is lost in the shuffle.

IT is interesting how the idea of Party is lost in the race to the white housethese days. Seems to me, the base does not want hillary... The base.... They want the war over, they want economic fairness, they want corporatism to end, they want lobbyists out of politics, they want people to be able to step up, they want peopel to be able to unioninze, they want good healthcare, they want to be able to afford to live, and most of all, they want a candidate to LISTEN to what the base wants. They do not want a candidate to dictate to them what they should want, and that is a huge problem I have with hillary.

I personally want a candidate that resounds to the things that are near and dear to me. I want a candidate that is diplomatic, I want a person who I admire. I don't want to have a drink with my president, I want to know that they care about this country and the direction it should go. I WANT my president to be a BETTER person than myself.

I love this story.
In the spirit of starting anew, a business group and the city's sanitation department are inviting New Yorkers to shred their bad memories of 2007.

Everything from photos of ex-lovers to lousy report cards will be fair game when the Times Square Alliance and the New York Department of Sanitation set up shredders in the Times Square Visitors Center for an hour on Dec. 28.

Recycling bins will be available for items that can't be shredded, like embarrassing fashion mistakes, annoying CDs and irresistible — and fattening — chocolate chip cookies. The organizers say they'll also provide stationery for passers-by to jot down memories they wish would go away.

A grand prize of $250 will be awarded to the person deemed to be most creative in letting go of old baggage.

Better get there by noon: At 1 p.m., a sanitation truck will pick up the distasteful, the disturbing, the downright depressing — and cart it all away.

Once again we are years behind the world... But I guess it is better than nothing...

The incandescent light bulb, one of the most venerable inventions of its era but deemed too inefficient for our own, will be phased off the U.S. market beginning in 2012 under the new energy law just approved by Congress. Although this will reduce electricity costs and minimize new bulb purchases in every household in America, you may be feeling in the dark about the loss of your old, relatively reliable source of light. Here's a primer on the light bulb phase-out and what will mean to you:

JACKSONVILLE-- Rescue crews are responding to a huge explosion on New Berlin and Faye Road in north Jacksonville, according to FLORIDA TODAY news partner First Coast News.

First Coast News cameras saw a ball of fire shooting up into a huge cloud of black smoke. Callers near the scene say the explosion shook their cars.

One caller who works at the JEA power plant nearby says officials told him it was a chemical explosion and workers are being evacuated.

Other witnesses have called First Coast News and said they were also told to get out.

A spokesperson for the Holiday Inn on New Berlin road says their front doors were blown off their hinges and that they can smell the smoke. She says the smoke as a strange odor, but that they have not yet been told to evacuate.

Mondo is on the South side closer to Jacksonville NAS, but I wouldn't know where the ol' salt mine is...

Time to head off to the salt mine. At least I can listen to Sam Seder in the car.

I would have wanted see it - if not for the Julia "I got an Oscar and I have no talent" Roberts.
She has not done anything in a while now, eh? She doesn't bother me too much. I just don't think she is the great american actress hollywood would want us to believe she is.

She seems likable in real life.

It moves her up a notch for me.

Back when she was filming Sleeping with the Enemy she was staying in Wrightsville Beach, NC. She was not so nice to a lot of people there, acted really stuck up and all.

Perry Kucinich, 52, was found dead in his home in the 4100 block of East 71st Street.

His brother Larry found him about 9 a.m. There were no signs of violence, officials said. The Cuyahoga County Coroner is performing an autopsy this hour.

Their brother, Dennis Kucinich, is a U.S. Representative from Ohio's 10th District. He is running for president.

As soon as we have something official from the campaign it will be posted here.

We, the Dennis Kucinich supporters, constituents, staff, volunteers, express our deepest sympathies to him and his wife and family at this time.

BROADWAY????? What show? Chicago? the grinch? (tries real hard to think of celebutardoriffic shows)... the producers?

Julia was in "Three days of Rain". A friend of mine directed it, Joe Mantello.

Julia had a rep of being a bitch in her early days....... but she went through a bit of a change. She's rather a nice and normal person these days so I hear. I haven't met her, really.

As for Dennis K., well the media is (and will) pick it up, since it was his "crazy" brother aka "the bankrobber". Perry is bro, has attempted suicide in the past. Sad.

Ugh. You're probably right about the media.

I have to say. I am very much against bringing family members into politics.

As someone who had a "troubled" brother all of my life, who did finally commit suicide, I don't see it as a valid political argument for the reason that siblings can be VASTLY different. I just hate that crap.

I guess with kids it's different because their parents may have had influence over their behavior, but even that, makes me a bit uncomfortable.

The candidates are not their relatives.

The media should offer their condolences and be on their way.

Hi Raine and everyone Mondo works about I think at least 20 miles north of the area of the explosion. Then its another 10 or so miles more to the east where all these huge plants are located. I do know he would have been far enough away and in a secure building where he is safe. Sorry about auctual mileage estimates Jax is so huge and spread out. This could have been a even more horrible situation since there are lots of different chemical and various other dangerous plants in that area.I could see the huge plume of black smoke from my house which is about 15 miles from Mondos job. Later

Comment by livingonli on 12/19/2007 21:57:32
Mondo says he did see a smudge of black in the eastern sky when he was at lunch.

So the thing that blew up is yeah about 10-15 miles from where I work and about 30 miles from my house. If it is the place I think it is, many many bad chemicals! :thud:

Comment by TriSec on 12/20/2007 02:32:53
Jeez, the sprawl of other places.

30 miles from my house is Worcester. (or NH, if I head north.)

10-15 miles from home is back to my ancestral homeland of Saugus.

But, that's the nature of the Northeast, I guess. I still recall our visit to Arizona. Our friends took us around to see a couple of sights, we went shopping, then we went out to eat. We get back and we've put on 100 miles. I have dining, shopping, and tourist attractions within walking distance of me here.

But, I digress.

Oh Christ distances here are just stupid! I can easily put 75 miles on my car running errands.

What are these "tourist attractions" of which you speak? Okay, okay there are few here. The oldest city in america is only 20 mile from my house. We got a really wiiiiide beach. Again none of this stuff is exactly close. But ya know...

Gore Place, colonial-era mansion of a former governor of this Commonwealth. The governor is buried in Mount Feake cemetery, this city, which is every bit as nice as the more famous Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Charles River Museum of Industry, which highlights this city's contributions to the Industrial Revolution

The Paine Estate, home of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and designed by Frederick Law Olmstead

And the brand-new Waltham Museum, our city's historical society.

Dining? Restaurant Row sparked the city's economic revival in the mid 1990s.
