Unfit for Office.

Today is guaranteed to be Chris Christie. He's scheduled an 11 am press conference and we will see what happens then. I said it last night and I will say it again: this particular story pisses me off. Political retribution like this is on par with organized crime.

Worse, it was reckless; lives were put in danger. As reported last night one woman may have died due to the delays in her getting to a hospital.
As Rachel explained on the show last night, this meant a delay for an EMS crew arriving at the scene of a vehicle accident where four people were injured, an hour-long delay for an EMS coordinator to reach someone who called 911 complaining of chest pains, and the elderly woman who died.

Making matters slightly worse, Molly Redden noted there was a missing four-year-old child in Fort Lee that morning and though the toddler was eventually found, local police were initially hampered from responding due to the traffic crisis imposed on the community for no reason.
His administration decided to exact political retribution for not endorsing the Governors re-election campaign. It's Nixonian in nature. Like the Watergate break in -- it could very well be criminal.
Reckless endangerment is either a third or fourth degree offense (depending on the facts of the case), which means a person convicted of it could face 3-5 years imprisonment, or less than 18 months respectively. The relevant portions of the applicable statutes are as follows:
2C:12-2 Reckless endangerment.
a. A person who purposely or knowingly does any act, including putting up a false light, which results in the loss or destruction of a vessel commits a crime of the third degree.

There is another issue here to which I take serious offense. Since 2001, the Port Authority of NY/NJ has taken serious measures to keep the bridges and tunnels in the NY/NJ metro region safe from possible terrorist attacks. The area is classified as a Tier One region according to the Department of Homeland Security. As such the Port Authority of NY/NJ receives federal grants to help secure the region. Since 2001 the worry was that the area could be crippled again by another attack.
These areas are determined by the DHS by examining the relative risk of the 100 most populous Metropolitan Statistical Areas defined by the Office of Management and Budget. Relative risk is determined in a three step process that analyzes urban areas and states based on threat, vulnerability and consequence measurements, an effectiveness assessment of applicants’ investment justifications, and then the final allocation decision.
and this:
With a $12.48 million budget, the Citizen Corps is dedicated to bringing integrating the community and government to better coordinate local involvement in the preparation, planning, mitigation, response and recovery stages of emergencies. The main mission of the Citizen Corps is to utilize every resource by means of education, training, and volunteer service to local security and readiness to respond to threats of terror, crime, health issues, and disasters. CCP allocations are determined using the USA PATRIOT Act formula, which specifies that each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico will receive a minimum of 75 percent of the total available grant funding.
Security theatre and the Patriot act have been well documented over the years. Like it or not, to this day, law enforcement is highly visible at bridges and tunnels in the region. Cars are always subject to random checks for explosives or other possible offenses. People have given up privacy for so-called security. It is the lingering effect of the day that changed everything, also know as September 11, 2001.

So it turns out foreigners weren't the ones that crippled the region. It was a politician, a governor of a state, along with his appointees that did. What happened was supposed to be what all this security theatre was supposed to prevent. It came from government, not insurgents.

And that is - in my opinion - criminal. This is not a minor thing. It's a betrayal from the Christie Administration. He's unfit to serve in political office.
