Cleaning House on Memorial Day Weekend.
Yesterday I was going through a box of old bills, letters, cards, solicitations from worthy organizations and wondering why in the hell I hung on to all of this crap for years and let it all sit in boxes in my "junk room" formerly known as my office, when I came across a pile of sheets from one of those daily calendars (you know the kind where each day gives you some pithy piece of information, you read it, then when the day is over, you tear it off and voila there is another page waiting for you to read and admire). Well, the calendar pages that I came across were from a George W. Bushisms calendar that one of my sisters had given me for ChrismaHannaKwansica year before last. I took a few moments to read through the pile of pages torn from the calendar, wondering why I had bothered to save them. Well, I promised Raine that I would attempt a blog post this morning (BTB, Raine, I hope that you are havng a great time with your friend, it sounds like you two are having a blast). So my point (and I do have one) is to share some of the more egregious (mis)statements made by the man who stole the white house in 2000 with the help of the Supreme Court. So without further ado - I give you some of the most ridiculous remarks to come out a president's mouth (with commentary, of course).

"There's no question that the minute I got elected, the storm clouds on the horizon were getting nearly directly overhead"
Washington, D.C., May 11, 2001

The following comment is an interesting thought from a president who just vetoed the Farm Bill and whose veto was subsequently overridden by Congress.
"I want you to know that farmers are not going to be secondary thoughts to a Bush administration. They will be in the forethought of our thinking."

Salinas, Californina, August 10, 2000

Here are a few golden oldies:

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

Washington, D.C., August 5, 2004

"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across the country."

Poplar Bluff, Missouri, September 6, 2004 Huh???

Here is a not-too-helpful assessment of the recession:
"Recession means that people's incomes, at the employer level, are going down, basically, relative to costs, people are getting laid off."

Washington, D.C., February 19, 2004

Here's a rare moment of reality slipping into the presidunce's thoughts, followed immediately by more incompresensible gibberish:
"The march to war hurt the economy. Laura reminded me a while ago that remember what was on the TV screens - she calls me 'George W.' - 'George W.' I call her 'First Lady." No, anyway - she said, we said, march to war on our TV screen."
Bay Shore, New York, March 11, 2004

Here's some evidence as to why we are paying so much for gas:
"We need an energy bill that encourages consumption."
Trenton, New Jerssey, September 23, 2002

And finally (I could go on and on, but I realize that there may be folks waiting to read this blog). Here he admits that he has a problem speaking, but my question is "Is he cunning?" Perhaps we should ask Condi Rice?
"I admit it, I am not one of the great linguists."
On the NBC News Special, The Bush White House: Inside the Real West Wing, January 23, 2001

If you have the day off - good on ya. If you are working - I hope that you are making triple-time. In any case, enjoy the day and thank our lucky stars that we have only 238 days, 14 hrs, 13 min until Bush/Cheney are gone and ready for prison!
