Bullets over Broadway. Or, is that 8th Ave?

Here's some news you may have missed this past week.

Do you own a gun? Well, why can't blind people own a gun? It says nothing about it in the 2nd Amendment. Sez right here: anyone can carry a gun.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

According to some people the blind should have no rights when it comes to self protection and government oppression. Yes, that's right: the blind are being denied the right to carry weapons. Right here in America!

From a Huffpo poll:
Earlier this week, a commentator for NRA News raised eyebrows with a video making the case for letting the blind legally carry guns in public. Most Americans don't agree, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll shows.

In fact, only 23 percent of Americans said it should be legal for the blind to own guns at all, while 51 percent said it should be illegal. Democrats (62 percent to 12 percent) and independents (50 percent to 25 percent) were more likely to oppose allowing the blind to own guns. Republicans were fairly evenly split on the issue, with 33 percent in favor, 34 percent opposed and 33 percent not sure.

Even fewer Americans said the blind should be able to obtain permits to carry guns in public. Only 16 percent said they support open-carry permits for the blind, while 66 percent said they were opposed. Seventy-seven percent of Democrats, 63 percent of independents and 55 percent of Republicans said they were against allowing the blind to carry guns outside the home.

Well regrettably this charming little video about the injustice of blind Americans has been removed by the NRA supporter who owned it, due to the comments about it.

Of course if you're blind and you live in Iowa you are good to go! Because presumably Iowa is such a strong supporter of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Though driving a car or heavy construction equipment is still off limits, for now. Why can't a blind person get a good union job as a fork lift operator, I ask you!

You know, maybe giving guns to blind people isn't such a bad idea. Look at these perfectly well sighted people with guns:

I blame video games for the above abuses. People: first person shooter (FPS) games are not really that realistic. Hence the word GAME.

And why stop with just the blind? There are other disabilities that are ignored. Down's Syndrome? Sounds like you need an AR-15. That'll shut down those people starring at you. Paralyzed from the neck down? Some ingenious American will make a strap on firearm that you can aim and shoot through osmosis. PTSD, Paranoid Schizophrenic, Narcoleptic, Antisocial, whatever. We have a kickASS weapon just for you.

Well, until this is resolved, we'll just have to live with the Texas beer-bellied white guys in flip-flops toting long guns to protect us.
