Honestly I had to do that just to distract myself so I wouldn't endlessly bang my head into a wall. Why you may ask? Well, apparently Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan is on a 12 day trip to Japan and was "wow"ed by the maglev train. He called it the "future of transportation".

Did you know patents for maglev technology started showing up in 1905 and 1907? Yeah, I didn't either, but apparently people have been curious about this for a long time. In 1913, there was a demonstration in New York with rail cars. But it was the '60 there things really started to take off.
1969, Japan starts operating two independent maglev trains.They have been improving on this tech since most of us showed up on the planet. Ten years later Germany gets its first maglev train.

That Republicans seem impressed by old technology says so much about their party. And why we need fluffy, cute, baby animals to keep the rest of us from going ballistic.
