The Quiet day. What?
Sorry, my hears are still ringing from all the explosions last night.
Only in 'Merica do we celebrate by destroying our own stuff. Win a war; blow shit up. Win a sporting event; riot and set fires. Sometimes these fires are words that can be as volatile as a gasoline fire.
"American was founded by those seeking religious freedom" we are taught in elementary school. Now hateful people are using that as a way to bulldoze over loving, tolerant, peaceful people by saying that soon men will marry pets, that's just one far-fetched example.
But literally, Americans are leaving their jobs to avoid the ickiness of non-opposite sex marriage. Because: EW!
Yes, if you have the misfortune to live in Decatur County Tennessee and you are perfectly hetero, you are shit outta luck. That's because the entire staff at Decatur County clerk’s office in Tennessee has resigned following the SCOTUS ruling on same-sex marriage.
The employees -ALL of them- quit their jobs. All three, and cited their religious beliefs as the reason behind their decision. How many of the homo-gays were they being forced to marry, is surely what you're asking yourself. There must be some gay agenda in the water in Decatur County! Hold on, let me check.
Zero. Not one gay person tried to get a marriage license in that County.
Well, how proactive of them. I suppose.
These angry conservatives like to force their Christianity down the throats of everyone else; despite our country being founded on freedom of religion. How did this happen?
When we have crazies like former Rep. Allen West telling us that we'll have a CIVIL WAR over this; fanning the flames of hatred - what should our reaction be? Hardly anyone listens to Allen West other that Allen West but one voice with a microphone or a computer can slowly begin to stir the pot.
West, who now heads the National Center for Policy Analysis, (whatever the hell that is) recently posted a column entitled, “Why the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage could lead to civil war.”
With this ruling, the Supreme Court is essentially saying individuals have civil rights based on their sexual behavior, and setting up a monumental battle with the free exercise of religion. This could well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back – that camel being the up till now silent, passive Americans who have been cowed into “tolerating” societal changes that go counter to their fundamental beliefs.
He went on to add:
The SCOTUS decision on same-sex marriage is not about the issue itself — it is about individual religious freedom and the imposition of the State’s will against faith. After all, it is the original reason why the Pilgrims fled England. And since there is no place for men and women of faith to retreat — they will make a stand. This ain’t first century Rome.
(Bold is mine)
So, according to this guy, we need to have a civil war to get our religious [Christian] freedom?
Allen West needs to study the Constitution a little more. And not just the document itself, but our founding fathers words regarding the beginning of our country. I found this article
that goes around every 4th of July, 35 Founding Father Quotes Conservative Christians will Hate.
With nuggets like: "The Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.”
~1797 Treaty of Tripoli signed by Founding Father John Adams
These are the kind of things we must constantly remind our conservative friends who want to hold us back and keep America stupid. We don't need a civil war just because some people get a freedom that you already had. We don't need to fly a hateful flag, claiming it's "heritage" when we know what it really stands for. We don't need our supposed leaders to throw word bombs just because some certified crazy person wants to marry a dolphin or a dog. We don't need to lump one group of people together and call them rapists or drug lords just because one in the group might be.
Let's stop blowing shit up and destroying our own country. Can't we have just one nice thing?
