The congressional hearings on what led up to and what happened during the Jan 06, 2021 Capitol invasion and insurrection has been riveting. As more shoes drop, it seems pretty clear that a lot of people will (eventually) go to jail for this, including - hopefully - TFG. Even as all of this is going on TFG is trying to decide whether to run again in 2024. Either that, or he's just scamming his supporters (again) for a campaign fund he can loot (again).

If he does run, he won't have much in the way of competition. The only real threat to him (and this country) in the primary is Florida governor Ron DeSantis. It's still unclear whether DeSantis will run, but if he does, America is really in a bad spot. He's as bad as TFG and a lot smarter. He would win FL giving him an electoral college edge. What's stopping him?

Well - his record is abhorrent. He supported and signed the "Don't Say Gay" bill. He screwed Disney AND Florida with his effort to take over their self-maintained district. He's been an anti-vaxxer all along.

Now, with the FDA approving COVID vaccines for kids 5 and under, DeSantis has made sure that FL is the only state in the union refusing the government-provided vaccines for kids:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is standing by his decision to not order a supply of COVID vaccines for children under 5.

"We are not going to have any programs where we're trying to jab 6-month-old babies with mRNA," DeSantis said during a press conference Monday. "We still have not ordered it. We're not going to order it."

If DeSantis still decides on a national run, he will have his hands full with TFG, who prefers to keep his pets where he thinks they belong:
Various reports have indicated there is tension between Trump and DeSantis. Trump told New Yorker writer Dexter Filkins they have a “very good relationship” and that he is “proud of Ron.” But other sources told Filkins that “as DeSantis’s popularity grew, tension hardened into resentment.” From the article:

Trump told me that he was “very close to making a decision” about whether to run. “I don’t know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him,” he said. “It’s his prerogative. I think I would win.” In nearly every poll of likely Republican contenders, Trump still has a solid advantage: DeSantis’s constituency was Trump’s first. Trump seems to want to keep it that way. A consultant who has worked for several Republican candidates said that the former President had talked with confidants about ways to stop DeSantis: “Trump World is working overtime to find ways to burn DeSantis down. They really hate him.”

It's going to be a horror show over on the other side of the aisle, regardless of how this ends up. For now, we need to focus on the midterms to ensure that whatever happens in 2024, there will be Democratically-controlled government in place to deal with it.
