In years past, those in control of Congress would be sympathetic to a president of their own party. Since 9/11/2001, the powers of the Executive Branch have increased in fits and starts, as Congress finds ways to get around members of the opposition party. As a result, the concept of the "Unitary Executive" has crept closer to reality, with presidents increasing their power and taking actions previous presidents could only dream of.

In the hands of a level-headed, patriotic, thoughtful, considered, and intelligent president, that kind of power is generally wielded sparingly and only when absolutely required. Considering the current occupant of the White House - none of those adjectives apply. It's a scary point in our country's history, and all eyes are on the Republicans in Congress, wondering what it's going to take for them to reel in pResident tRump.

Good Morning.

Let's talk cancer this morning. We all know somebody who's had it, or may even be battling it as we speak. When I was diagnosed myself, I was more mystified than anything else, but as time went on I discovered a tenuous link to many of my friends. In the years after my diagnosis, about a half-dozen of us that had worked at LL Bean in Burlington, MA all had similar diagnoses. Our store is located on a former Superfund site, and to this day somebody still opens the manhole in front of the store to "test" for something. What it is, I never found out, but it's enough of a coincidence for me to remain curious at least, to this day.

It's Monday and I am still reeling from the insanity that came out of C-PAC on Saturday.

Remember when Obama called Kanye a "Jackass" off the record and it was leaked to the public? Good times.

Talkin' Trump
Author: TriSec    Date: 03/02/2019 13:46:46

Good Morning.

Let's have an etymology lesson today.

Donald Trump became prevalent to most of us back in the 1980s. But the word trump has a longer history.

Come On Now

I can't be bothered to talk about the monstrosity that happened in Vietnam this week. I listen to almost all of the Michael Cohen testimony. Some of it was very good, some of it was very petty and some of it was downright ugly. There were a few moments that shed some light on what else is happening, things that are not under the umbrella of the Special council investigation

Another Big Day
Author: BobR    Date: 02/27/2019 14:14:36

The day has finally arrived: Michael Cohen - unimpeded by loyalty to pResident tRump - is going to testify before Congress. The last time he was there, he lied. This time, he says, he is going to tell the truth, and has several documents to back up his assertions, including:

  • A copy of a check Mr. Trump wrote from his personal bank account – after he became president - to reimburse me for the hush money payments I made to cover up his affair with an adult film star and prevent damage to his campaign;

  • Copies of financial statements for 2011 – 2013 that he gave to such institutions as Deutsche Bank;

  • A copy of an article with Mr. Trump’s handwriting on it that reported on the auction of a portrait of himself – he arranged for the bidder ahead of time and then reimbursed the bidder from the account of his non-profit charitable foundation, with the picture now hanging in one of his country clubs; and

  • Copies of letters I wrote at Mr. Trump’s direction that threatened his high school, colleges, and the College Board not to release his grades or SAT scores.

Good Morning.

I find it somewhat ironic that Mr. Trump has finally gone to Vietnam, but I digress.
