I didn't watch it; I couldn't watch it. Tuesday night, pResident tRump held a rally in Arizona and delivered a speech that has been described by Republican strategist Rick Wilson as "a shitshow of the highest order". Right of the start, though he commented on the number of people there, saying "What a crowd... A lot of people in here, a lot of people.." And then "You know I'd love it if the cameras could show this crowd, because it is rather incredible. It is incredible." Despite tRump supporter claims to the contrary, his "crowd" was decidedly underwhelming:

Good Morning.

I was fully prepared to write an old-school blog today, specifically to remind us about the cost in blood and treasure we've spent in Afghanistan.

I'll still note that today is our 5,798th day in Afghanistan.

We're reaching the point where it's about to become a generational war. Somebody born in 2001 (like Javi) will be graduating high school in 2019...and there's every indication that we'll still be there at that time.

We all know what happened this past weekend. You'd have to be living under a rock to not know a basket of deplorables showed up in Charlottesville, VA this past weekend to protest the removal of a confederate statue. Things got ugly; with Nazis and KKK and White Supremacists - oh my! - it's certainly not surprising. What should be surprising (but - sadly - isn't), is how our supposed "president" handled it.

You could've gotten whiplash listening to his comments on three successive days. First was the "both sides are to blame" non-condemnation. Next came the specific calling out of Nazis. Finally, he finished with "good people on both sides". Good people on the Nazi side? Really?

Good Morning.

From time to time, we tend to get wrapped up in current events here at AAV. We'll go back to basics this morning and take a look at an actual veteran's issue.

It's long since out of the headlines, but every day approximately 20 veterans still commit suicide in these United States. What's becoming more disturbing these days is that more veterans are choosing to drive to a V.A. facility and finish the deed in the parking lot. It almost sounds to me like a final, desperate cry.
