Wither the GOP?
Author: Will in Chicago    Date: 04/13/2016 05:22:47

Will Rogers, famous pundit and wit of the 1920s, was noted for having said "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."

If only Will Rogers could see today's Republican party, which is fracturing even more than the Titanic did after its run-in with an iceberg. The results of this year's political chaos is leading to events that no pundit would have predicted a year ago

Good Morning.

Join me in the TARDIS for a moment this morning, won't you?

We're going to an overseas airbase. There's been an increase in deployment of an iconic Cold-War era warplane; B-52 bombers are being deployed to strike at an elusive enemy, perhaps as a means to end their capability to strike at our soldiers overseas, or indeed Americans at home.

The Year in Hate: A review of 2015
Author: Will in Chicago    Date: 2016-04-07 10:37:54

The current presidential election has shown us much – good and bad – about life in the U.S. One of the worst aspects of life in the past year has been a rise in the number of hate groups in our nation. Earlier this year, the Southern Poverty Law Center released a report called “The Year in Hate 2015.”

Yet despite the growing number of extremist groups, the SLPC reports some successes in opposing hate. One thing that I think helps create opposition to hatred is that we can now document incidents such as the attack on a protester by Donald Trump supporters. The Internet and social media now makes it easy to share reports of hateful incidents and rally people to oppose those who advocate hatred of others

Good Morning.

I briefly stalked our airborne bloggers last night - they are on the ground in Paris! (And they had a whale of a tailwind - the flight graph shows many hours of them flirting with Mach 1, or 660 mph at FL370)

But on to the business at hand.

All subjects in America seem to be political. Climate change is one of them, with leaders in the Republican Party either denying that climate change is occurring or saying that it is merely natural. However, a recent study may give even climate denying diehards like Senator Jim Inhofe (R- Oil, R- Fracking, oops R-Oklahoma) pause.

A recent study released by the University of Massachusetts - Amherst shows that sea levels may rise more quickly than earlier thought with the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.
