I feel like I should write something about the Boston Marathon today... or Patriot day, or the Red Sox game today... I'll leave that to TriSec.

Happy Easter & Pesach

Let's take a look at what's going on in the world to celebrate this time of rebirth and renewal, shall we?

One of the worlds most misogynist countries will begin construction on the tallest phallus in the Universe this week. Calling the phallus an "office building" though one wonders why Saudi Arabia would need so much office space in a country that has every other country do the work for them.

Good Morning.

Two hundred thirty-nine years ago at this hour, a wee little kerfuffle was taking place a few miles from where I sit. The regulars had already shot up Colonel Parker and his men on Lexington Green, and were on the march towards the Patriot's arsenal at Concord. In a few hours' time, about 100 men of the expeditionary force would face off against more than 400 Minutemen at the Old North Bridge...and would expediently decide to retreat to Boston.

In past years, we've often visited with some of the participants in this battle. Last year, I missed the occasion, as a very different battle was taking place a few miles in the opposite direction after what had happened on April 15.

I'm not sufficiently pissed off -- yet.

You know ultimately, we will get exactly what we deserve if we don't work for what we want.

And it will take work. We -- the American people -- are under attack by big, monied interests.

It seems like only yesterday (but was - in fact a years ago) when the Tea Baggers were screaming that they wanted the government to "keep your hands off my Medicare". It was such a jarring disconnect between the confused rhetoric and the reality of social safety net programs as to be comical. How could anyone not realize that Medicare is the very definition of government, and one of the single largest budgetary items we had? Where did they think the money came from for Medicare? Yes - from taxes, through the federal government, and then out to medical service providers.

The idea that nothing good comes of the federal government is a meme that feels good to the rebels, the libertarians, the nut job tea baggers, and all of the rest. Of course - they'll complain while they drive on roads, enjoy the protections of state and federal law enforcement, and - in many cases - feed their families with food stamps and welfare checks.

Good Morning.

I'm out for an early-morning birding hike today with Mr. Bean, and then Javi has his first soccer game. Going to be a busy morning.

But before I head out, let's talk briefly about a subject near and dear to TriSec's heart....baseball!
