Happy New Year!
Author: BobR    Date: 2014-01-01 12:42:36

It's a brand new year. I will do everyone a favor and not do a recap of the year, since other writers have done it enough (and probably better). The past year was like most - a mix of good and bad, like a mellow rollercoaster. I am also not going to talk about resolutions. Instead, I'd rather look ahead at 2014.

So what lies ahead? Let me prognosticate.

Good Morning.

Today is our 4,468th day in Afghanistan.

We'll start this morning as we always do; with the latest casualty figures from our ongoing war; courtesy of Antiwar.com:

US Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 2,300
Other Military Deaths - Afghanistan: 1,108

We find this morning's Cost of War passing through:

$ 1, 501, 496, 100, 000 .00

Today is the last Tuesday, December 31, 2013 we'll ever see...so I'll push all the stories I've been saving for our end-of-year dump.

The year that was.
Author: Raine    Date: 12/30/2013 14:04:49

I'd hoped to write a blog about all the stories that happened this past year.

Benghazi, the attack on Women's rights, Fast and Furious, ObamaCare, the NSA, the debt ceiling, the government shutdown, fake filibusters... These were among the stories that dominated the headlines this year.

Crazy Governors of the South
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 12/29/2013 16:14:43

Is it just me, or does it seem like when Democratic politicians create a controversy it's mostly a moral judgement error (getting bj's in the Oval office, showing their junk on Twitter, or being John Edwards, etc). While when other popular party creates controversy it's most often criminal; mostly in how they get elected or how rich their coffers became. Or, they're just bat-shit crazy like SC governor Nikki Haley - who is a woman, not a dude in a Metal band - celebrating the birth of Our Lord and Savior by gleefully squealing over a hand gun as a gift she received.

Good Morning.

Hopefully it will be a quiet "in-between" weekend for all of you out there. As for me, there's no rest - I'm at the store both days this weekend including a full 8 hours on the sales floor today. (Increasingly rare in retail.) It's not quite peak 'return' season, but today will be at least as busy as last Sunday.

Winning the Holidays
Author: BobR    Date: 12/27/2013 14:02:51

Christmas has come and gone for another year. It's another one "in the books" as the sportscasters like to say. The "holidays" are not over yet, with New Year's Eve just around the corner, but it does seem as though Christmas won the War On Christmas™.

Ask a Vet - Christmas 2013
Author: TriSec    Date: 12/24/2013 11:16:05

Good Morning.

As we prepare for our 14th consecutive Wartime Christmas, let us all pause and ponder what the future might bring.

Of course, we'll start the same way we always do; with the latest casualty figures from our ongoing war, courtesy of Antiwar.com. It's been a long time since I included the Iraq numbers, but I will today...for each of these totals represents a family torn apart by war for every holiday.
