A certain sameness
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/09/2013 12:39:18

Good Morning.

I'm off in a bit for more trail-clearing work with Mr. Bean. We're gearing up for peak retail season, and unfortunately I have already seen early signs of the fat man.

On a side note, how's he going to get all plump and jolly if he skips Thanksgiving Dinner, but I digress.

I've just spent the last half-hour or so skimming my usual haunts looking for something to write about this morning. I remain un-inspired.

Accounting the Count: The Va. AG race is still in play
Author: Raine    Date: 11/08/2013 14:07:39

While a recount would certainly be expected anyway, it appears as tho we have a case of missing votes in Fairfax County, Virginia. This is a rather big deal.

Don't Quote Me
Author: BobR    Date: 2013-11-07 11:56:53

Most people know what plagarism is. Way back in high school, the lesson was pretty clear: do your research, but use your own words. The rationale was that you needed to show you understood the sources you were using. The lesson was that you shouldn't take credit for someone else's work.

It would be easy to forgive a high school drop out for not understanding the concept, but a high school graduate should understand. A college graduate definitely should understand. When you quote someone else's words, you make it clear that you're quoting, and you give attribution.

Ask A Vet
Author: TriSec    Date: 11/05/2013 11:18:30

Good Morning.

Today is our 4,412th day in Afghanistan.

We'll start this morning as we always do; with the latest casualty figures from our ongoing war, courtesy of Antiwar.com:

We find this morning's Cost of War passing through:

$ 1, 486, 409, 725, 000 .00

We will start today in Afghanistan. With a nickname of "Graveyard of Empires", they've had a long history of destroying and humiliating bigger, better, and more powerful enemies. Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and now We have learned this lesson by hard default. But Afghanistan has an even older enemy, and it's one from within. It's rarely been talked about, but it's never gone away...and it's appearance is one of surprising beauty.

Elections Matter
Author: BobR    Date: 2013-11-04 11:48:14

Elections Matter. That's simple enough. Most people seem to understand it. Most people get that there is a presidential election every 4 years. Some people get that there are "alternate" year elections on the even year between presidential elections when all House representatives have to run for office (as well as during the presidential election year - those terms are 2 years after all).

What most people don't seem to understand is that there is at least one election every year, sometimes more. They often get ignored because they're "only" for some small local office, like city government, or maybe a state House representative or something. Why bother taking the time for that?

Good Morning.

We're off to get Javi his annual shot of brain-eating Thimerisol; it might have some live flu virus in it, too.

In the meantime...I totally want to be a Modernaire. Bonus points?
