Bloodthirsty
Author: BobR    Date: 09/14/2011 12:32:51

So the question I have to ask is: when did the Republicans transistion from the party of slow careful progress into a bunch of bloodthirsty vengeful animals? I know that's certainly a provocative question. But recent actions by both politicians and even the dedicated Republican voters have me wondering how it came to this...

As we head towards the last quarter of 2011, it's time to start thinking about what's going to happen in Iraq at the end of the year. Allegedly, we're supposed to have all our troops out by December 31...but what's going to happen after that?

In My Life, 10 Years After.
Author: Raine    Date: 09/12/2011 13:02:01

Most of us in this little small blog family have known each other for more than half a decade now. Every September, like much of the Nation, we have shared our stories of that day, we have shared our feelings of the weeks and years after and all that has happened. We have shared all of it, the good the bad the ugly - anger and hope, fear and courage.

Yesterday, it marked a decade -- a decade of the events that were put into place for us all to meet. Even though the darkness of the past decade brought so many of us together, there have been many truly wonderful happenings to rise out of it. It has been cathartic, supportive and inspiring.

Okay, if you've already had enough crying from the Memorial services and news reports of the 10th Anniversary of this dark day in our history, you'll need a break.

I am grateful today for those that survived; for those that bravely fought in the fires on the day and the many days that followed after the attacks, and for those that carry the message of PEACE despite the rancor that many of us feel. I have to remember that peace and mediation will prevent future attacks like this. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

It's a dream.

Now, relax to some vids of cuteness to relieve the stress:

PAC Man - A Story For Our Times
Author: BobR    Date: 09/09/2011 13:09:22

It all started with a tweet. Yesterday Glen Greenwald retweeted a comment made about a reporter dying while covering the war in Afghanistan. The original twitterer was tied to a PAC that supports President Obama. Glen Greenwald (and later David Sirota) - never missing a chance to take a cheap shot at the president - included "pro-Obama PAC" in their tweets, to somehow insinuate that this was related to him. At the very least, this is what you get from Obama's financial supporters, right? What they DIDN'T do was scratch beneath the surface to find out anything at all about this person and the PAC he represents.

So - we did.

Addressing the Nation
Author: BobR    Date: 09/07/2011 12:54:05

Congress returns to Washington today to continue doing nothing to help America. It was also supposed to be the day President Obama addressed them (and dressed them down, I suspect), but after privately agreeing to the date, Speaker Boehner changed his mind, and publicly rebuked the request, creating a firestorm of controversy. So tomorrow night is the night...

On Labor and Workers Rights
Author: Raine    Date: 09/05/2011 14:30:37

On Friday, the President signed the following proclamation:
The right to organize and collectively bargain is a fundamental American value. Since its beginnings in our country, organized labor has raised our living standards and built our middle class. It is the reason we have a minimum wage, weekends away from work to rest and spend time with family, and basic protections in our workplaces. Many Americans today are given opportunities because their parents and grandparents fought for these basic rights and values. The principles upheld by the honorable laborers of generations past and their unions continue to fuel the growth of our economy and a strong middle class.

This year has seen a vigorous fight to protect these rights and values, and on this Labor Day, we reaffirm that collective bargaining is a cornerstone of the American dream. From public employees -- including teachers, firefighters, police, and others who perform public services -- to workers in private industries, these men and women hold the power of our Nation in their hands.
