Today we are a nation that will not spike the football and show the world that the killing of Osama Bin Laden was a trophy. It wasn't always that way. After Saddam Hussein was captured on Dember 14, 2003, the 9mm pistol he had on his person was recovered. Somehow, that gun ended up in the Oval office of President Bush. It later went on display at the future site of the Bush Institute on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Saddam’s Gun A Symbol That Bush ‘Disarmed Him Literally’“It represents this Texas notion of the white hats taking out the black hats and keeping the trophy,” Rice University history professor Douglas Brinkley said, referring to Saddam’s pistol. “It’s a True West magazine kind of pulp western mentality. For President Bush, this pistol represents his greatest moment of triumph, like the F.B.I. keeping Dillinger’s gun. He wants people generations from now to see the gun and say, ‘He got the bad guy.’” Earlier that year, Saddam's sons, Uday and Qusay were killed. Those pictures made their way into major newspapers around the world. I always thought they were leaked. It turns out - I was mistaken. It was quite deliberate from our government. Coming Full Circle

On September 11, 2001, the nation's psyche suffered a brutal blow from a group of extremists with which most American's were only vaguely familiar. On May 1, 2011, the nation got a sense of closure as the leader of the extremists was brought to justice for the deaths on his hands. The reactions to the story have brought reactions themselves, as people grapple with understanding their feelings, much as they did nearly 10 years ago. Back then, the nation came together with a sense of unity, verging on jingoism. People across the world proclaimed "we are all Americans". There was a sense of support as Bush ordered troops to penetrate Afghanistan's borders in pursuit of the person publicly held responsible for the attrocities. Some still question whether he was behind the attacks. Few would dispute that he was behind numerous other fatal attacks, and was a source of financing for training and operations carried out against America and other "allied" targets. He painted a target on America's back and handed the gun to the people he helped brainwash.

Amazing news. I'm still sitting here trying to write something that matters. I am speechless. I am stunned. I thought he was already dead, and I will admit, it appears I was wrong. I literally thought last night that the news would be that 'American forces found what appeared to be the the remains of Osama Bin Laden. It was confirmed the body was his thru DNA evidence.' Turns out, I was wrong. He was alive and living in Pakistan. Pakistan. Continue reading...

F*ck the Donald

Seriously, I'm sick to death of this guy. Admittedly, he was amusing for awhile, a very, very short while but now I just want him gone. I am against seeing anyone suffer, but for Donald Trump I might make an exception. And it would be karmic anyway, as I'm pretty sure he has made many people suffer and die. This [insert adjective choice here: Adulterer - - bully - - draft dodger - - media whore - - Liar - - racist - - greedy] man has even started to loose his shine with the press. The PRESS! The same press that have in the past had to sit through obvious lies from our previous administration and then robotically report them as fact with a perfectly straight face. This press, did indeed 'boo' the Donald and his lovely enslaved human mannequin last night, see/hear it here.[/url Continue reading...

Good Morning! Well, due to poor planning, I've got nothing and no time to research. I'm off to an all-store meeting before opening today, then I have a full 8 hours on the sales floor today. I'll yield the floor to anyone with the power, if you feel motivated to take over today's blog and give us something better!

Tone Deaf

When this country was founded, of the three branches of government, Congress was held in the highest esteem. The top of the Capitol building is higher than any other building in DC. It - and particularly the House of Representatives - is considered to be the "people's House". The Representatives are meant to represent the desires of their constituents in the nation's government. The current crop of Representatives, though, seem to be curiously tone deaf to the desires of the electorate, and bull-headedly determined to impose the ideology of their party and their corporate benefactors on the country.

This morning I find myself fascinated once again over the amount of racism that is acceptable (for me, you know, NONE is the proper answer). For the Media, I just don't know. After yesterdays press conference, where the President actually declared that he released his Birth Certificate, some assumed that the issue would finally be over. They were wrong. The reason why is that it was never really about the birth certificate. If one needs more proof, take a look at Donald Trump and Orly Taitz. One is now attacking the President's education, the other has deemed the President committed fraud with his selective service papers. I won't bore you with the freak show here, but she was kicked off of Lawrence O'Donnell's show last night. Trump, on the other hand, not satisfied to let his birther stupidity go, has moved on to Affirmative Action. ... accusing him of being a "terrible student" who shouldn't have gotten into Columbia University or Harvard Law School. "How does a bad student go to Columbia and then to Harvard?" One can easily read between the lines and hear the Dog Whistle there. Funny thing -you'll recall that Obama became the first black president of the Harvard Law review. The NYT wrote of it back in 1990Continue reading...

There is a certain attitude towards government (generally fostered by those that hate government) that government is NOT of the people, by the people, nor for the people, but instead some nefarious "Them". In the minds of these people, the government is the enemy. For some, this mindset is promoted as a rationale for privitizing government functions. Ultimately, our government suffers. Most people in public service (whether elected or hired) do good work, and take pride in helping the country. Those with law degrees in particular could make much more money in the private sector than they do serving their country in the halls of government. This is why it is so important that those elected to office do their work transparently, and are open to dialogue with those they represent. Like most jobs in customer service, the people you hear from are not those that are happy, but those that have problems. For those in these positions, trying to avoid their voices (or silence them) will make you look bad, and those seeking your ear even more angry and determined.
