I'm tangling with a dear Scouting friend on facebook over this very issue. As a mutual friend of ours observed years ago - "The only reason we can have a civil conversation about this is because of the uniform that we wear."
Scouting is, by and large, a conservative, religious organization.
The only reason I haven't unloaded on him is because - I want to sit around the campfire one day at Gilwell, smoke some cigars, and listen to his crazy Navy stories again.
Another symptom of coronavirus is evidently balkanization.

TriSec, I fear that we are perhaps now the "Disunited States of America." I feel that we no longer are working with the safe definitions that makes dialog possible.

Sadly its not about the intelligence, its about the charisma. How do a group of grown adults follow someone to the jungle and let themselves and their children to drink poisoned kool-aid?

So, my mother-in-law is going to die.
I went to the market today, and dropping off her supplies, she was peppering me with questions about this ultraviolet stuff, and the disinfectant that the president said.
I nearly took her head off, told her he's a fucking idiot, and if you do any of that, you're going to kill yourself.
She then moved on to talk about her "cousin in Chicago" - whose two sons are doctors - and all the pablum she has been passing along.
"Does she have an MD after her name?" Then it's a lie - don't believe anything she tells you.
I will let you know when she starts drinking Drano, as she sure loves her Kool-Aid.

You know that things are bad when you suspect that the George W. Bush administration would have done a somewhat better job as Dick Cheney would be afraid that COVID-19 would kill him.
Here in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, I see a fair amount of people not taking precautions. I have gone to stores and see people with no masks or gloves. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker extended the stay at home order until May 31st. Not only do I think that Governor Eric Holcomb of Indiana will follow suit but I suspect both governors and many others will have to extend their orders yet again.
