the reality is a side show

Good Morning. We begin another week of the impeachment inquiry and evidently, we have gone so far around the bend that the GOP is saying what the occupant of the White House did is kinda icky but not really that bad.

Why you ask? Becuase said Occupant didn't follow through.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Sunday pushed back on questions about whether it was appropriate for President Trump to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, pointing to the fact that the requested probe “didn’t happen.”

"Are you comfortable with the investigation that was requested?" CBS’s Margaret Brennan asked Jordan, noting that State Department official David Holmes testified that he overheard a call between Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland and Trump in which he "heard President Trump ask, 'So, he is gonna do the investigation?'"

“I thought we were supposed to be looking at the potential impact on the 2016 election and foreign countries’ involvement with that,” Jordan said before Brennan reminded him that the investigation mentioned was allegedly a probe into the Bidens.

“I don’t think that’s what took place,” Jordan said, continuing to note that U.S. aid to Ukraine had been released without any investigation, so the quid pro quo “didn’t happen.”
Meanwhile, over in the Senate, Ron Johnson thinks this airing of the laundering is simply unseemly.
"This would have been far better off if we would have just taken care of this behind the scenes," he said. "We have two branches of government. Most people, most people, want to support Ukraine that are trying to convince President Trump."

"If the whistleblower's goal is to improve our relationship with Ukraine, he utterly — or she — utterly failed," Johnson said of the CIA employee who, in an official complaint, said the president was soliciting help from a foreign nation in his 2020 reelection efforts. Their complaint set off a series of events that eventually led to the House's impeachment inquiry.
The Whistleblower stated that his goal was to express serious problems within the White House, it was not to help Ukraine. The money used to bribe the President of Ukraine was supposed to be the thing that helped the Struggling country.

It really is the Sideshow Bob defense.
“Convicted of a crime I didn’t even commit. Hah! Attempted murder? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel Prize for attempted chemistry? Do they?”

— Sideshow Bob, “The Simpsons,” Season 6, Episode 5, 1994 (snip)

Ultimately, though, Sideshow Bob’s lies are exposed by Bart and Lisa, in a plot we based on the Watergate scandal. (The kids meet a Deep Throat-style informant in a parking garage; a scene of them researching voting records echoes a shot from “All the President’s Men.” Yes, the parallels are getting uncanny.) In court, under intense questioning from the kids, Bob finally erupts in an outraged confession. Why did he deceive the town? “Because you need me, Springfield. Your guilty conscience may force you to vote Democratic, but deep down inside you secretly long for a coldhearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals and rule you like a king. That’s why I did this: to protect you from yourselves.” (I won’t get into an analysis of whether that line fits the current situation.) What Bob doesn’t say is that he’s also a scheming, egomaniacal narcissist who literally cannot stop himself from committing crimes. (I won’t get into an analysis of that, either.)

It’s hard to believe that the Sideshow Bob defense of Trump will be long-lived, as it fails to stand up to even the slightest scrutiny. It is literally a joke. (Still, Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Tex.) felt obliged to stamp out any confusion during the impeachment hearing Wednesday. “Is attempted murder a crime?” he asked Ambassador William B. Taylor Jr. Laughing, Taylor responded: “Attempted murder is a crime.”)

I can't wait to see what insane defense techniques they cook up this week. Buckle up!

and
