Generations ago, reporter Edward R. Murrow stirred America with a similar sentence, opening his broadcasts from wartime London.

COVID-19 Response, aka: Stupid is as Stupid Does
Author: BobR    Date: 03/18/2020 13:34:00

Italy - which has seen 7% of its citizens who contracted the illness die from it - is warning the world "Don't be like us!" The question remains to be seen - will we heed their advice?

As of this writing, the number of infections worldwide has surpassed 200K. China accounts for 81K of those, and 3100 of the deaths (just slightly more than Italy, who had less than half as many infections as China). China has "flatlined" in terms of new cases. The rest of the world is still on the rising wave.

The Votes are In
Author: BobR    Date: 03/11/2020 13:06:10

We are in a weird place in our country. On the one hand, it's primary season so there's a level of excitement in the air as people get a chance to have their say in the future of our country. On the other hand, the COVID-19 virus is slowly making inroads nearly everywhere in the U.S. Everyone is hunkering down, trying to avoid contact with other people, while at the same time venturing out only to get food and vote. We are now over 1000 confirmed cases in the U.S.

Watching the returns last night on TV, it's amazing to see turnout is up over 2016. Back then, there was a certain malaise, as neither primary candidate was very inspirational after 8 years of President Obama, and none of the Republican contenders seemed very threatening. This year, after 3 years of tRump incompetence and mendacity, the need to push him out of office in November is very real. It's enough to risk catching a potentially deadly virus.
