This is Our Watch

Now more than ever, this is our watch. Waking up to the news that Representative Cummings has left the earth is heartbreaking. Representative Adam Schiff stated on social media:

"Elijah Cummings was the heart and soul of our caucus, a dignified leader with a voice that could move mountains.

He was our moral and ethical North Star. Now we will be guided by his powerful memory and incomparable legacy.

Rest In Peace, my friend."

A Welcome Respite
Author: BobR    Date: 10/16/2019 12:28:39

Last night was the Democratic presidential debate. In the past, there were 10 candidates on the panel for 2 nights in a row to accommodate all of them. The rules of engagement for the debates has tightened since then (and some have dropped out), leaving 12 instead of 20. I was not looking forward to watching, since it was bad enough when there were 10 candidates on stage, vying for face time with the TV camera. Twelve? I couldn't imagine.

As it turns out, I decided not to watch. Our government (in particular - the Executive Branch) has been in a freefall into a dumpster fire ever since tRump took office, and it's gotten exponentially worse in the last few weeks as impeachment hearings have gotten underway. Ghouliani (ostensibly tRump's personal lawyer) is under investigation, demonstrating just how criminal the entire Republican party (and the tRump family and associates) has become.

Good Morning.

Ah, war! These United States live for war. Presidents, Senators, and Representatives alike clamor for conflict. Time, treasure, lives...all squandered for what?

Heading to the Middle East, our presence there in many ways ensures the perpetual nature of war in the region. The biggest problem is that we never know who to fight, so it seems we're ready to fight everyone. Except of course, Israel.

I really don't have words for what is playing out in the middle east. Actually, I do but I am really afraid to put them down on paper (virtual as it may be).

The Walls Are Closing In
Author: BobR    Date: 10/09/2019 13:11:50

There are a lot of possible analogies to describe tRump's legal situation. He could be described as a "wounded animal" lashing out, or a "cornered animal", threatened and ready to strike. I've probably used those myself. I think a potentially better analogy might be that he feels the walls closing in around him, as the people he can count on, the people he can use as shields, and his avenues of escape keep shrinking. His actions certainly reflect that.

The tRump tEam initially tried to dismiss the whistleblower complaint as "2nd hand information", despite the fact that it matches up exactly with the official transcript (and post-call actions) of tRump and his administration. Now that a 2nd "whistleblower" (witness?) with 1st-hand knowledge has come forward, the actions of the whistleblower seem even more justified:

Good Morning.

We'll dive right in today. I'm not sure of the source here (Washington Examiner? That's a Trump rag, isn't it?) but in any case, there's an interesting statistical quirk that's being reported.

Lighten up, Frances

This is where the GOP is going with this mess. October 3rd, the occupant of the White House stood on the south lawn and pulled what is basically a redux of his 'Russia if you're listening...' garbage during his campaign before he took the title of President.
