It's hard to believe that with the 2020 General election almost a year and a half away, and the first early primary over 6 months away, that we're heading into the first Democratic party primary debate. Tonight and tomorrow night will feature a total of 20 (!) candidates hoping to make a name for themselves and garner more support. For the viewers, it will be a little weird, due to the lottery system they used to divide the candidates between the two nights.

Wagging the Dog - Again

In August, 1964, the U.S. claimed that North Vietnam attacked one of our naval vessels in the Gulf of Tonkin. It was used as a rationale for going to war with North Vietnam, a war which lasted 11 years (from the incident) and cost almost 60K American lives (and many more lives among the various countries of southeast Asia). It was only 40 years later when the Pentagon Papers were released where it became apparent that it was a "false flag" operation, now commonly known as "wag the dog".

That was repeated again in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks as the Bush administration drummed up a war against Iraq using fake evidence.

On April 15, 2013, Boylston Square in Boston was devastated by a terrorist attack.

There were three immediate fatalities.


Three people were killed in the bombing. Krystle Marie Campbell, a 29-year-old restaurant manager from Medford, Massachusetts, was killed by the first bomb. Lü Lingzi, a 23-year-old Chinese national and Boston University statistics graduate student from Shenyang, Liaoning, and 8-year old Martin William Richard from the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, were killed by the second bomb.
