"I'll Hold My Breath Until I turn Blue!!!"

We've all been there. Somewhere in our lives, we've seen a toddler have a complete meltdown because they didn't get their way. Mommy and Daddy just ignore it and keep doing what they're doing, and eventually the toddler gets tired of not getting a response and stops.

It's annoying and irritating to watch, but for the most part, the non-parents shake their heads and move along.

But when it's alleged adults throwing the tantrum, and holding the entire country hostage by their actions, it sure makes you wonder what's going on. I know Raine wrote about it yesterday, but this image is powerful enough that it's worth re-posting.

We know what's at stake here. As for our Republican friends, they tend to forget the old maxim that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. The last time this happened, the party's reputation was damaged, and the President's eventually elevated enough that it affected the 1996 elections.

I don't like the ol' ivory tower stereotype, but this time I think it would be wise for the President to climb up there and watch. Let the Republicans do it. "Real People" pay little attention to Washington, until they can't get a passport, or nobody is around to help with a Medicare issue, or there's no food for their kids. Then things might really get interesting.

I'm actually quite shocked to hear that the House is actually conducting a Saturday Session.

Kinda goes well with the petulant child meme. Remember when we were kids and suddenly finals was upon us and we had to cram all weekend so we could maybe pass the test on Tuesday?

Yeah... Now I feel like the parent who is thinking *I told you this would happen*

I fear that a government shut down is inevitable. My hope is that it is short lived and that the GOP pays a high price with the public. They are no longer the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon or even Reagan. The Republican Party is now the party of Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Louis Gohmert, Michelle Bachmann, Mitch McConnell and a craven John Boehner.
