The internet just broke. Via Mediaite:
“It is incontrovertible that race relations have improved significantly during my lifetime and yours, and that opportunities have opened up, and that attitudes have changed,” the president told comedian and host Marc Maron. “That is a fact.”

“What is also true is the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives, you know, that casts a long shadow and that’s still part of our DNA that’s passed on,” Obama continued. “We’re not cured of it.”

“And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say ‘nigger’ in public. That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination,” he said.

Morning!

Is Momma on vacation this week? I'm hearing her talk with Eric Boelhert about the Clinton Foundation "controversy" and I thought that was done weeks ago. Someone?

Comment by trojanrabbit on 06/22/2015 13:23:45
Yes, Momma is on vacation this week.

That does not mean the RWNM wouldn't resurrect any controversy, be it Clinton Foundation, or Benghazi, or.....

So Trisec is a wee bit melancholy today. I posted the link on FB; a scout and scouter I have known since I was 16 has gone to the great campground in the sky.

Between Kagan quoting Spiderman, and the president dropping the N-bomb, we've got a whole new era in politics in DC

Bets it was Kagan's weird, nerdy clerk. But, she signed her name. It's all good.

Regarding the spiderman decision, and it really makes Kagen even more awesome, is that the court has decided to NOT overturn law.

For good or bad, I agree with that idea. I wish they had done that with Citizens untited.
But Justice Elena Kagan, writing for the court, said the court is reluctant to overrule established precedent, a principle known as "stare decisis," even if it means "sticking to some wrong decisions."

"An argument that we got something wrong — even a good argument to that effect — cannot by itself justify scrapping settled precedent," Kagan said. She said there was no "special justification" for overruling a case that has governed licensing agreements for more than half a century.

She was joined by Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor.

We've gotten a lot of feedback about the gun video we showed on Meet the Press today. Some were upset it only featured African-American men talking about their regrets of pulling a trigger. All of the men in the piece volunteered to be a part of the video and the larger project it is a part of.

But the last thing we wanted was to cloud the discussion of the topic.
The original decision to air this segment was made before Wednesday's massacre. However, the staff and I had an internal debate about whether to show it at all this week. When we discussed putting it off, that conversation centered around race and perception - not the conversation we wanted the segment to invoke.
We decided against delaying the segment because we wanted to show multiple sides of what gun violence does in this country. We thought the issue of gun violence in our culture and society was an important conversation to continue -- too important to put off for another week. The consequences of gun violence should not be hidden.

As I say to all audiences, Meet the Press should make all viewers uncomfortable at some point or we are not doing our job. I hope folks view the gun video as a part of the conversation we should all be having and not the totality of it.
This lousy POS.

So.. I spent a good hunk of this past weekend playing the new expansion to Final Fantasy 14 (that's the online one).

Wow. Good stuff. A hell of a grind on the new levels tho.

Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul ALL racism enablers.

Know who they are by their actions, sayeth me.

The only reason why they are * forfeiting* is because they got cause rubbing off the slimy hands of racists.

The thing is, I have sympathy, I heard that presser, he was trying to be funny, but he said his odds are better at recovery than overturning the *rain tax* than lowering taxes for marylanders (and a number of other silly things) — trying to be funny, I guess.

Then he said he was in Stage three and possibly four cancer.

When I can get the transcript, I will post it.

I get gallows humor and maybe this was a part of it, but the reality is this: he has great health insurance and he is not a big fan of the ACA. I truly hope this will give him pause.
