Admin Edit: I am merging Will AAV Election day blog here!

Good morning!!!

Today marks Election Day 2016. As I type these words, millions of Americans - civilians and those who serve in our nation's armed forces - have already voted. More will do so.

As we vote and await the results of the election, the U.S. military is continuing its investigation into the recent deaths of three U.S. military trainers in Jordan.

The Americans were killed Friday in an exchange of gunfire while driving into an air base in southern Jordan. A Jordanian was wounded.

Brett McGurk, White House envoy to the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS extremists, said Jordan’s King Abdullah II expressed condolences in a meeting Sunday. An investigation is ongoing, McGurk said.

U.S. officials identified the three staff sergeants as Matthew Lewellen, 27, of Lawrence, Kan.; Kevin McEnroe, 30, of Tucson, Ariz.; and James Moriarty, 27, of Kerrville, Tex.

These three men were among six U.S. Special Forces members who died in the past three days.

Jordan is a key U.S. ally in the fight against ISIL. The country also has taken in many Syrian refugees.

In Iraq, U.S. military advisors are helping in the efforts to recapture Mosul. Less is being said of American volunteer medics who are treating soldiers and civilians.

MOSUL, Iraq — When Iraqi forces pushed into Mosul's urban center last week, Derek Coleman, an American volunteer medic, was among those treating the wounded at a front-line field clinic.

He said he helped treat 44 casualties before he lost count.

"I think the Iraqi (military) got an awakening when they pushed too far forward," Coleman said, flipping through a notebook he uses to keep records of his cases. In all, 12 soldiers died at the clinic on Friday, he said. "We had two Humvees just loaded with dead bodies."

The Iraqi military has said that they found a mass grave with 100-decapitated bodies near Mosul.

Back in the U.S., Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan) is demanding an investigation continues into the death of a recruit at Parris Island, North Carolina amid concerns about hazing.

The Marines have identified Zachary Boland as the second recruit to die this year at the service’s East Coast training depot in Parris Island, South Carolina, as Marine boot camp comes under intense scrutiny by lawmakers.

Separately, a recruit who was severely injured in a two-story fall at Parris Island on Oct. 28 remains in critical condition, said Capt. Gregory Carroll, a spokesman for Parris Island. The Marine Corps has not released his name, but friends of his family have identified him as Kristian Gashaj, 18, of Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Boland, 18, was assigned to the 2 nd Recruit Training Battalion when he was found unconscious in his bed after 8 p.m. on Friday, Carroll said. He was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m.

A lawmaker said she was "deeply disturbed" to learn of Boland's death and called for it to be "investigated thoroughly and expeditiously."

Returning to our elections in the U.S., there are several races that may have an impact on veteran issues, and several veterans are running for elected office.

Also, if you or someone you know is having election problems today, there are resources to help protect your rights. I hope that our readers will vote today. Democracy depends on all of us.

Good morning, bloggers!!!

I am back home after a standard blood test. (I am taking some high blood pressure medication.)

I will be up late for the election results. In addition to wishing for Hillary Clinton in the White House, I am wishing for Democratic wins in the Illinois Senate race and the Indiana Senate and gubernatorial races.

Anyone see the photo where Donald is trying to make sure Melania voted for him. He's not sure of his wife's support.

I'm pretty sure Hillary is going to win, just since Bush/Gore there is always that little bit of doubt that's always there.

It was looking very tight as far as winning the state goes (even with the early voting there favoring Hillary big time), but I'm pretty sure even without Ohio she's is gonna win.

I have been hearing that Trump needs to flip a blue state to win.

BTW, DirecTV has a Election screen channel with running tallys o the Electoral College with the Senate and House positions and a split screen of CNN, BBC World News, MSNBC, and Fox News.

After I did some housework, I voted.

I voted for Hillary Clinton for President, John Gregg for governor (he is narrowly favored here in Indiana), and Evan Bayh for U.S. Senate.

It will be a long night. So, let us hope that everyone who wants to vote can do so. (I was prepared to call 1-866-OUR VOTE if needed.)

Locally, an election judge said we had a steady stream of voters.

I fear that Trump's movement may still be here long after the election. The alt-right is encouraged by his candidacy.

Voted an hour ago. Voted straight Democratic. No ballot initiatives this year. There was a line, but only had to weight a few minutes. It was split by alphabet, and it was all M through Z. Only three whose last names were A through L came in during that time.

Comment by TriSec on 11/09/2016 02:03:51
Hi all.

Just home from the polls. No shennanigans were observed in my little corner of the election.

Unofficial results from Waltham Precinct 2, ward 1:

Clinton - 1186
Trump - 567
Johnson - 74
Stein - 14
Blanks - 23
Write Ins - 43 (Being Massachusetts, these included Bill Belichek, Tom Brady, and Theo Epstein)

It looks like Question 4 will pass.

And my friends Tom Stanley and Peter Koutoujian will be returning to their local offices.

What the fuck is happening!!!!!!! How is it even possible. I guess I've underestimated the bigorty and hate that people still hold in their hearts. And the GD Johnson Stein voters. I am so upset at this moment.
