Mornin' all!

Still trying to track down that video Raine. I'm pretty sure I've got it narrowed down to a single month, but some of the audio in the vids isn't what it used to be. Plus this was still back in the days when C-Span played classical music over an ongoing vote.

Howdy, folks.

Back at ol' REI today - first time in about two weeks between new day job and Woodbadge weekend.

I now no longer regret leaving the healthcare industry. 'twas a fine career for three decades, but I suddenly saw no future in it.

I know the source is what it is, but amid the conservative slant and digs, this seems like a pretty big deal if true.
The Pentagon this week suspended the security clearance of a White House National Security Council analyst that U.S. officials say was the target of political retribution by government bureaucrats opposed to President Trump's appointees.

Adam S. Lovinger, a 12-year strategic affairs analyst with the Pentagon's Office of Net Assessment (ONA), has been on loan to the NSC since January when he was picked for the position by then-National Security Adviser Michael T. Flynn.

Lovinger was notified in a letter from the Pentagon on Monday that his Top-Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS-SCI) clearance had been suspended and that he had to return to the Pentagon.

1993 C-Span interview with Marjorie Margolis-Mevinsky, who cast the tie-breaking vote on the '93 budget act. She talks about the taunting.

(1 sec this was the wrong link) Link to the video from the evening before - the vote is near the end of the video but the taunting is unclear (I definitely remember it being a lot more audible, so now I think there was another time when it happened)

Thanks to Stephen Colbert, whenever I read something that has come from Trump's thumbs, or in an interview, I hear in my head Colbert's Trump voice.

Good morning, bloggers!!

It is time to pressure the Senate to block this bill. One of my Senators, Joe Donnelly, is a Democratic. Todd Young, the other Senator, is a Republican and seems to not care about my part of Indiana - one of the more populous parts of the state. His nearest office is about two-and-a-half hours away.

So after watching all these old videos of House coverage from 1993-94 I've come to two realizations:

- Federal legislators desperately need to get back to the cordial rivalry they used to have in lawmaking, and away from the vitriol. If you watch some of these old sessions you can see how the Repubs, even then, weren't anywhere near as bad as they became once they took power.

- The Dems now need an out-in-the-open legislative blueprint similar to Gingrich's Contract with America.

I would suggest that all those who voted for the bill be required to talk to patients at Cook County Hospital, change bed pans, and live a few weeks on the resources that many Americans do. It might teach them compassion.

Heh I imagine it was. She was in the freshman class for the 103rd Congress, and lost as a result of that vote in the 1994 midterms. I doubt she even knew the Clintons personally before Bill called her during the vote, but the connection between the families lasted.

It all changed with Gingrich who John Dean described as the epitome of authoritarianism in his book Conservatives Without Conscience. When Gingrich gained control, it started the party's move to the extreme right which was solidified by the Tea Party and the we oppose Obama even if we agree with him attitude the GOP embraced during the Obama presidency.

The Democrats do need to bring the activist base out which includes millennials, many of whom are ideologically to the left of the party establishment. A variation of the Contract With America in a more progressive direction could be a motivating factor.to get out the vote especially in mid-terms. If there is a high voter turnout, Democrats win elections, and if there is a low voter turnout, just look at 2010, 2014, and to a degree 2016.

This is the article that Thom Hartmann wrote and mentioned on the air: Republicans' Vicious and Immoral Health Care Bill Is Just Part of a Sinister Long Game.

In the end, it looks like the GOP is mostly about being the representatives of the 1 percent. Welcome to the oligarchy.

I think there is the stereotype of Gen X'rs as apathetic that still exists. Interesting, how many of these hard right Republicans like Ryan and Gorsuch are Gen X'rs which makes it hard to think there are that many radical righties in our peer group. The GOP has certainly cultivated that group in their circles. I guess just hoping the boomers die off would be enough to get rid of that stench.
